Our Outreach Programme educators Leonard and Dudu Masinga have reached 4800 learners so far this year! Recently they visited KwaNtebeni High School and this is what one learner shared with us after an outreach programme at their school:
> "I think Durban Holocaust and Genocide Centre should carry on with their work because it has taught me a lot and I think many people should a chance to have this opportunity. ♡!!"

Today, August 2nd, is Roma Holocaust Memorial Day.

This 1940 photograph from Bełżec shows Romani families gathered as they are given instructions by camp officials. Bełżec was one of the sites connected to the Porajmos, the Romani name for the N**i genocide of Roma and Sinti.

They were considered social outcasts by the N**is and a threat to ‘Aryan’ blood purity. Throughout N**i-occupied Europe, they were hunted down ruthlessly, interned and deported to slave labour and killing centres.

Today we commemorate the Romani victims of Na**sm. We also reflect on how prejudice and dehumanizing language led to mass violence.

We are so grateful to the many generous donors who contributed towards Marc Green’s Comrades Marathon campaign, the proceeds of which were donated to the Durban Holocaust & Genocide Centre (DHGC).

The DHGC serves as a place of learning as well as a place of memory to the victims of the Holocaust. We provide programmes to thousands of High School learners and educators in the KwaZulu-Natal region. Recently we have established a department dedicated to outreach programmes providing our workshops to learners in impoverished areas who would otherwise not have this opportunity. All our educational programmes and projects are funded entirely by donations and would not be possible without the support of people like yourselves.

Thank you Marc for your thoughtful gesture, ensuring that we are able to continue the important work that we do.

To coincide with the FIFA World Cup 2026, we invite you to visit the DHGC and take alook st our new exhibition, “FC Bayern Munich During National Socialism: Victims, Followers, Perpetrators” which looks at the history of FC Bayern Munich during the N**i period. It examines the role played by the club and its members in National Socialism, and explores the fate of those who were deported or fled for being Jewish or for politically opposing the N**i regime.

Last week, we had the honour of hosting the Three Centres Conference, facilitated by the Durban Holocaust and Genocide Centre (DHGC). Representatives from the and Holocaust and Genocide Centres joined us, along with guest speaker Aaron Peterer from the Anne Frank House Muesuem , who presented on their global outreach work. The event fostered valuable exchanges of ideas, insights, and innovative practices that advance our shared mission of promoting human rights education in society.
