Elizabeth Gordon Gallery Commercial Fine Art Gallery in Durban. We offer unique artworks, consultations, conservation framing, restoration and prints.

Established almost 50 years ago, the Elizabeth Gordon Gallery, located in a gracious old house on Montpelier Road, is one of KZNโ€™s leading commercial art galleries. The gallery is well stocked with original works by eminent and emerging SA artists and hosts exhibitions of new works, on a regular basis. The Elizabeth Gordon Gallery offers consultations both in the home and office to give advice, and to cater to clientsโ€™ specific requirements. A well established framing department, specializing in conservation framing, is on hand to give ideas and advice. All framing is done on the premises to ensure strict quality control. The Gallery offers an exclusive range of handmade and handgilded frames. Quality prints are available and the Gallery will source unusual and different material to assist a client in creating a particular theme. Restoration of art works by highly trained and experienced restorers is a speciality and this work is also done on the premises. Old or damaged frames can also be restored by qualified staff.

Walls still bare before the holidays? Consider the coast. ๐ŸŒŠ

KZN artist Sandi Beukes has traded her pastels for geli printing, a hands-on process using a gelatin plate and acrylic paint, each pull entirely one of a kind. The result... four landscapes of sand, sea, and sky, built in patient horizontal bands, no two reading alike.

Viewed together, the eye drifts from deep blue to pale yellow to grey, a whole day at the coast unfolding without a single wave rendered literally.

Framed in white mounts and natural oak, finished at 52 x 62cm, this set was made for exactly this kind of home... coastal, calm, unhurried.

There is no single point where the eye is meant to land. That is the trick of it. You look for a way in, and instead you find a bird, then a face, then a pattern you swear wasn't there a moment ago. The canvas keeps giving. It does not resolve.

Garden Glory is the louder of the two - yellow and pink pressing against each other, figures gathered like they're mid-conversation, a bird cutting through it all as if trying to escape the noise. Nature's Garden pulls inward instead, a green and gold spiral at its centre, a peacock caught mid-unfold, quieter but no less busy underneath.

Neither painting sits still long enough to be summarised. That restlessness is the point. Hussein builds surfaces the way memory works - nothing in a straight line, everything layered on top of what came before.

Hang them together and they sit in harmonious conversation. Hang just one and it still fills a room the way certain people fill a silence.

Some landscapes are not observed. They are absorbed, over years of returning, until they become less a place you visit and more a place you carry with you.

Renee Leslie has always loved mountains - walking in and about these giants, her eyes continually lifting, entranced by light playing across their surfaces. On her travels, hand and pen work quickly, sketching from the car window what the eye cannot hold onto for long.

This is not a mountain rendered stone by stone. It is a mountain remembered - escarpments and foothills built from broad, expressive strokes that move the way memory moves, in fragments and impressions rather than fixed detail.

Look at where light meets shadow here. That is the real subject. Not the rock itself, but what happens to rock when the sun finds it at a particular hour, from a particular angle, on a particular day that Renee once caught from a moving car and refused to let go of.

Mountains ask something of anyone who spends real time with them. They ask you to lift your eyes, again and again, until looking becomes a kind of devotion.

Suraya Tewary presents "Muse," a work that asks what it means to find inspiration in permanence. The mountain stands as it always has - patient, unchanging, essential.

The mountain rises in warm earth tones, flanked by slender trees that reach toward a sky glowing with the last light of sunset. Suraya's soft mark-making transforms geology into something tender. This is not a mountain conquered by paint, but one honoured by it.

Her mist-shrouded peaks in the distance suggest depth without demanding attention, while foreground foliage in earthy greens and yellows grounds us in the immediate. Suraya paints protection here - the mountain sheltering, the trees standing witness, the whole composition breathing with quiet reciprocity between land and light.

"Muse" reminds us that inspiration often comes not from what changes, but from what remains constant enough to return to, again and again.

A lovely new mirror, just arrived, in light oak wood frame which works well with the frames on the two Hussein Salim next to it. This such a popular colour wood at the moment and as you will see from the sample piece it is well grained.
