The City Hall of Buzau, through the Cultural and Educational Center "Alexandru Marghiloman" (CCAM) organizes the first edition of the International Symposium of Sculpture in Buzau, 2022 (Buzau International Sculpture Symposium – BISS). Contest entry rules

1. In order for the application to be valid, the field with the acceptance of the terms and conditions of the "
BISS 2022 Symposium Rules" must be ticked.
2. Filling in the online registration form with the personal data:
Copy / photo - Identity card (IC) in the case of Romanian artists or Passport valid in the case of foreign artists (with minimum validity until 01/09/2022).
2-5 projects according to requirements
CV (Curriculum Vitae with artistic activity - short version with a selection of 10 events and uploading the complete CV in Word or PDF format).
3 images with completed monumental sculptures (in the material in which the project is to be carried out), specifying: the name of the work, the place, the year and the dimensions.
A recent portrait photo of the artist, (required to be printed on the banner and on other promotional materials). Uploading documents, projects and filling the data in the application website: www.buzausculpture.com
• Participants must apply with a minimum of 2 projects - a maximum of 5. How to present the project:
1. Each project will be presented on an A3 page (297x 420mm) in .JPG format
2. Framing: in this format 50-60% of the space must be occupied by a main image (eloquent that benefits the sculpture), in the rest of the remaining space images from at least 3 different angles.
3. No text should appear on the project.
4. The project can be in the form of a photomontage of the model, a 3D rendering of the proposed sculpture or a drawing.
5. Type of metal materials for metal sculpture (an estimate of quantities and supplies).
6. Approximate the dimensions of the marble block. Evaluation criteria:
• The sculptural form proposed has to have aesthetic and plastic qualities;
• Originality and the ability to beautify, visually integrating and customizing the urban space;
• The concept and the adaptation level / interpretation to the theme of the symposium
“Water Memory - 1650 years since Buzău city was mentioned for the first time in official documents”;
• The ability of the project to highlight the type of material used by shape, texture and finish. If the projects do not meet these criteria or certain items are missing, your application cannot be validated. 1st edition of Buzău International Sculpture Symposium – BISS, 2022
Symposium Rules - Terms and Conditions:
1. The materials provided for artists are:
• for stone sculpture - a block of Rușchița marble, about 2-3m3.
• for metal sculpture - Corten or stainless-steel sheets (different thicknesses) and different profiles depending on the requirements of the project.
2. The option of integrating another material suitable for outdoor sculpture, previously established with the organizers but not exceeding 10% of the total volume of the sculpture.
3. The scale of the metal sculptures / installations can vary between 2-5 m3, having the option to change their dimensions according to the needs of the urban space where the works will be placed and also the option to combine the metallic materials available during the symposium (based on the selected project).
4. The symposium will take place from June 28, 2022 to July 31, 2022.
5. The sculptures will be created in a space specially arranged for each sculptor inside the Rotec factory in Buzau.
6. The symposium will take place regardless of the weather.
7. The theme of the symposium: „Water Memory - 1650 years since Buzău city was mentioned for the first time in official documents”.
„In a letter sent by Iunnius Soranus, the governor of Scythia Minor to Vasile the Great, the Christian archbishop of Caesarea Cappadocia, tells of the martyrdom near Buzău of a Christian missionary, Sava, who was drowned into the Mousaios River on April 12, 372 AD. by the non-Christian Goths led by Athanaric, which passed by the polis of the same name. 8. Each artist can submit a minimum of 2 projects and a maximum of 5 projects.
9. Deadline for registration of projects and necessary documents: May 1, 2022, GMT +02:00 (11:00 PM).
10. In order for the application to be valid, the field must be ticked by accepting the terms and conditions of the "BISS 2022 Symposium Rules". All required fields must be filled in and the images of the proposed projects in .JPG format must be uploaded at a good resolution.
11. The application will be made online, sending / uploading all projects, data and documents on the website: www.buzausculpture.com
12. 10 professional sculptors will participate in the symposium: the host, a special guest and 8 artists selected through the competition.
13. Eligible for participation are professional artists of any nationality who can work individually to create monumental sculptures.
14. The main objective of the first edition of BISS is to make 5 marble sculptures and 5 metal sculptures to beautify the Buzau city. Depending on the quality of the applications and how they correspond to the aesthetic, thematic requirements and technical possibilities, the number of selected sculptures can be reduced or increased.
15. The proposed sculptural project has to be original, not to be a replica made during other artistic events.
16. The proposed sculptural design does not infringe the rights of a third party, including copyright, design patent or other copyrighted elements.
17. The selection will take place in two phases:
• the first phase (May 2-8, 2022) will include a pre-selection of 30% of the total number of proposed projects, by a specialized jury, consisting of 10 professionals in the field of fine arts, decoration and architecture (of which four jurors are foreign artists).

• the second phase (May 9-22, 2022) includes the promotion of the selection of 30% of the total number of proposed projects (carried out by the specialized jury), so that the citizens have the final vote (public vote), which will be done by an online voting system on the web page designed for the event.
18. The result of the selection will be published on May 24, 2022.
19. The sculptors will make the works according to the selected projects. Changes to the project after selection are accepted only in agreement with the organizer and if the proposed changes will improve the overall appearance of the sculpture.
20. If the final result of the sculpture does not correspond to the original project, or is not completed, is too small or different from the initial proposal, the organizer reserves the right not to pay the artist for his sculpture.
21. The artist must be present at the opening ceremony and at the press conference.
22. The artist will bring his own basic tools (grinder, chisels, pneumatic hammers, etc.) and protective equipment to create the sculpture (to: cut, assemble, texture and finish).
23. Heavy equipment such as: compressor, crane, welding machine, CNC metal cutting, hammers, electrodes, metal and stone cutting discs will be available as needed at work place.
24. The organizer does not provide assistants. The artist can bring his own assistant, but his expenses (with meals, accommodation, etc.) will be covered by the artist.
25. Each artist will have his own connection to electricity (220/380 V).
26. The cost of air and train tickets (economic class) will be reimbursed based on the proof of payment. For those who will travel by personal car, the fuel will be reimbursed depending on the distance traveled from home to Buzau (and return) taking into account an average consumption of 7.5L / 100km.
27. The total net amount received by each artist for the completed sculpture will be 3000 Euro. From this amount, each artist will receive at the beginning of the symposium the equivalent value in RON of the amount of 500 Euro (at the BNR exchange rate on the respective day). The remaining 2500 Euro will be awarded after the completion of the sculpture to the standards set in the selected project. For foreign artists it will be paid in cash in Euro. For Romanian artists, the equivalent amount in RON will be paid by bank transfer, at the BNR exchange rate on the respective day.
28. The sculpture made during the symposium will be donated / assigned together with all the patrimonial rights regarding the sculptural work. Thus, the sculptor as assignor assigns exclusively to the Assignee (CCAM / Buzău City Hall), the copyright, property and image of the sculptural work to be permanently located in a specially designed urban space of Buzău.
29. The artists selected to participate in the symposium will bring a model of the sculpture, which they will donate to the Cultural and Educational Center "Alexandru Marghiloman" (CCAM) to be exhibited in a permanent exhibition.
30. Accommodation will be provided by the organizers throughout the symposium (June 28 - July 31), at the 3-4 star hotel in a single room.
31. Meals: breakfast - in the hotel, lunch - catering at work, dinner - restaurant.
32. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided at work (water, juices). Alcohol is not allowed during work. Alcoholic beverages will be offered in the evening, depending on your preferences within a certain limit.
33. During the symposium any other extra expenses with drinks, phones, food, room service, etc. which are not in the protocol, will not be covered by the organizers.
34. The artists will not leave the symposium before the closing ceremony, the only exceptions, in this case, being a prior agreement with the organizers and in case of force majeure.
35. The artists will be present on working days (Monday to Saturday) at the venue of the symposium, between +/- 09:00 AM – 06:00 PM, with a lunch break. Depending on the weather or for various reasons, this program may change slightly.
36. Sundays will be non-working days and there will be organized trips to get to know the tourist attractions of Buzau County.
37. Each artist reserves 10-30 minutes in their daily program for the presentation of their sculpture in a direct communication with the public or the media.
38. Each selected artist will have prepared a personal portfolio of at least 10 monumental sculptures from other symposiums or artistic events that will be screened (in the Amphitheater in the Youth Park) or presented in television shows.
39. Artists are responsible for their own health, work safety (how to work with tools). Artists who violate safety at work are fully responsible for the accidents they cause to themselves and to others. If necessary, the organizer reserves the right to stop the artist from working.
40. The organizer provides basic health insurance in case of an accident during the symposium.
41. The artists will take part in all the events planned by the organizers such as the opening and closing ceremonies of the symposium in the presence of the cultural and political personalities of Buzau, press conferences and television shows.
42. The organizers are responsible for the logistical conduct of the symposium and reserve the right to change the schedule at the last minute or in case of force majeure to cancel the event.
43. Foreign artists will be expected at the airport to be taken to the hotel (return after the symposium). The address of the hotel will be communicated to the selected artists.
44. The selected foreign artists must inquire if they need a visa or other documents to arrive in Romania (to act in a timely manner for their purchase), to buy the plane tickets and to communicate by e-mail as soon as possible the arrival and departure details.
45. At the end of the symposium each artist will receive an album of this event with photos of the project taken during the working hours, in order to reveal how the sculpture was realized and placed in the city, and a diploma of participation.
