Today's photography venture discovering more parts of District 4! 📸📸📸 💥

Cross the road from then end of Hẻm 99 and you're straight into Khu Phố 8! The blue banner over the entrance still carries its old ward name even after the 2025 updates...

Wander in and the streets narrow fast: red plastic stools outside a phone repair shop, a fruit-seller working his cart-bike through the lane, a woman crossing with bánh tráng trộn on her mind.

Then the architecture changes register — a run of narrow, two-storey shophouses with steep triangular tile roofs, the classic Saigon "nhà ống" (tube house) form built to squeeze commerce and living space onto the narrowest possible street frontage. Ground floor for business, living quarters above, and a roofline you don't see much of anymore outside pockets like this one.

Round the corner and you're at Bếp Mều Béo — a cat café with three residents holding court in the window — before the walk closes out at a small doorway fruit stand, quietly getting on with the day.

Keep following for more D4 discoveries as we wander and capture our way around this fascinating part of HCMC 🔥

💥Take a walk with us down Hẻm 99 🚶‍♂️‍➡️💥

Hẻm 99 is easy to miss! Blink at the wrong moment on Đường 41 and you'll walk straight past the blue street sign 😊 — but turn in, and it's one of the most lived-in alleys in Khánh Hội 👌

Ten metres from where the Alleyway Market ends, and a different rhythm entirely: repair shops with doors thrown open to the street, a rooster who owns the sidewalk, a woman in a nón lá walking home with the afternoon's shopping 🐓

Keep going and you'll hit Hủ Tíu Cô Mai 🔥 small, steel-tabled, and always full. It's known locally for hoành thánh, and watching the women behind the counter work through the lunch rush, hands never stopping, tells you why the tables never free for long 😋

Khánh Hội was a fishing and dockworkers' quarter long before District 4 became District 4, and alleys like this one are where that history is easiest to feel — not in a museum, but in a bowl of soup on a steel table.

Big thanks to Dustin & Sea for being our very first trial run! 🙌

This week we road-tested something new at Jack Clayton Art Gallery 💥💥💥 the first of several themed workshop concepts we're developing, plus our very first evening class session👌

No templates. No pre-planned steps. Dustin and Sea each started with a blank block, sketched their own design freehand, then carved and hand-printed it from scratch. What came off the press wasn't a copy of anything — it was theirs alone, start to finish 🔥

Watching two completely different pieces emerge from the same simple process (draw → carve → print) reminded us why we love teaching this craft 👉 give people the tools and a bit of guidance, and the story on the block becomes personal 😎

Huge thanks to you both for being open to figuring it out with us as we shape these new formats. More themed workshops — and regular evening class slots — coming soon. 🥳🥳🥳

💥'The Boy in the Alley' 💥

Inspired by my 'D4 Discovery' photo project this network of alleyways is just off 241 Ben Van Don Street, a stone throw from the heart of D1 but worlds apart.

More to cpme in this series...

A big thank you to Kendra and Robin who visited us yesterday from Australia 🇦🇺🦘💥

They took home a personal favourite in this ground floor scene woodcut inspired by a trip to Hao Sy Phuong apartments in D5, Saigon 🔥
You won't find this one online! As alot of our unique art in our gallery it doesn't always make it to the digital world 🌏 so always best to visit us in person to see the full collection 🚶‍♂️👌

We are OPEN today for Sunday and here until 6pm✌️
