Alongside being an online platform, Gallery Medium hosts exhibitions, private views and events, selling art in a curated setting.

ARTIST

Prune Phi is a visual and performance artist. She was born in Paris in 1991 and grew up in the south of France. She lives and works in Marseille. Prune summons what persists, fades, or shifts from one generation to the next: memory lapses, fractured transmissions, and the fictions we construct to fill in the gaps within families, communities, and their diasporas. She questions our relationship to rituals and traditions shaped by contemporary and emerging technologies, to sustain a connection with those who have become invisible. Through her work, she brings to light mnemonic traces that shape our stories, our gestures, and our ways of belonging. Her work has been exhibited at the Hessel Museum, le Musée du Jeu de Paume, le Carré d’Art de Nîmes, le FRAC Île-de-France, le Magasin CNAC, the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art, the Minnesota Museum of American Art, the Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles.

‘Hang Up’ by French-Vietnamese visual & performance artist Prune Phi is a phantasmagorical fiction. A figure moves through the shadows. Fragments of sentences drift and collide. The music is too loud to follow their thread, the darkness too dense to see through, except in sudden bursts of flashlight. Images fracture and dissolve. What remains are traces: the residue of an irreversible displacement, of a life imagined elsewhere—suspended between places, caught within a split reality.

In this altered space, the night belongs to its youth. Beneath the crushing heat, their feet still damp from a passing rain, they slip through the city on hacked scooters. The machines become extensions of their bodies, vessels of desire, freedom, and rebellion. Flame stickers transform each ride into a small mythology, their embellishments echoing the ornamental motifs of Buddhist representations of hell, where fire, transformation, and illusion coexist.

Everything vibrates, resists, refuses to settle. Within this dream state, images become unstable, realities overlap, and even words begin to lose their footing.
