Interactive museums are filled with fun by design. Those spaces are also designed to be safe spaces. While we may not yet have a building at our Market Street location, we do have a tremendous partnership with the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center !
Not all topics that children and families face are...fun. Some are heavy, REALLY heavy. In the coming days, weeks, and months you will be seeing posts about grief and bereavement. We aren't trying to be party poopers, we are trying offer resources and comfort.
We are partnering with many organizations to offer opportunities for "Healing Through Play." This is an initiative put on by the Association of Children's Museums, Knology, and the New York Life Foundation. Locally, we will be partnering with Hospice of Warren County, Family Services, TAPS, and more.
Back to school week is hard on EVERYONE. If a child is grieving, it can be even harder. Not all topics are fun, but families and children should always know there is someone in their corner.
Here are some back to school resources related to grief.
Regardless of where you are in your grief journey, we hold space for you. We will be working with the above mentioned partners to offer programs that will provide safe spaces for adults and children - opportunities to acknowledge and work through grief. Grief is heavy, but it doesn't have to be maneuvered alone.
