That's William Lee Smallwood, historian and former York City Council member, talking about Crispus Attucks. He said that even in his later years, C.A. still felt like his home away from home.

🏆 Big news! The Crispus Attucks History & Culture Center has won the 2026 Downtown First Cultural Catalyst award, presented Thursday, August 13th at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, where we stood out among three finalists.

Along with the award, we received a State House certificate and a State Senate proclamation, all of which will soon be on display at the HCC.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our mission and helped make this possible. Stop by to see the award in person!

Frankie Greer grew up coming to Crispus Attucks. He played basketball, boxed, and performed in a local band, where he says he "got a chance to be loved." Now his paintings hang in our Bob & Donna Pullo Art Gallery.
