imMIGRATION
Through a range of mediums such as installation, photography, sculpture, painting and more, this show explores the work of many artists who either immigrated to the United States or whose families came here searching for a better way of life, or who had no place else to go if they wished to survive. Immigrants have contributed their rich cultures, traditions, music, art forms and celebrations, leading to innovation and a profuse exchange of ideas. Indeed, the United States and specifically New York, have benefited from immigrants from around the world and the resulting migration of creativity from artists has resulted in the flourishing of our nation.
"We Remain Individuals" by Diane Brawarsky.
Our new Art Stories program was a success! We learned about Henri Matisse and then explored his collage techniques. A big thanks to librarian Ms. Mary and all of the participants. Please join us the first Saturday of every month at 11:00 am. Next month we feature Romare Bearden.
All set up for our free Art Stories children’s program in the library. Now I’m just waiting to hear the pitter patter of little feet! Please join us every first Saturday at 11:00 am where we listen to a children’s book about an artist and then explore the artist’s technique in art making.

Madge Scott & Patricia Stuart Conversate
August 23 – October 4
OPENING RECEPTION: Thursday, September 5, 5:30 pm
Madge Scott and Patricia Stuart are story tellers. Their work depicts the faces, the lives, feelings and the souls of their subjects including children sucking sugar cane, marches of the ancestors, moonlit prayers and everyday life in Jamaica. Through the art work, the gallery has been transformed into an intimate space where viewers can be drawn into the subject’s quiet conversations.
Having a great time learning how to print on fabric using fruits and vegetables. @ctoph leading a great workshop.
We’re proud to announce our first ever Resident Artist, Christoph Sawyer. Throughout the month of August he will be based in the gallery and will be welcoming the community to attend free art workshops. He will generally be in his studio from Mon-Fri from 1PM-5PM. Keep posted on our page to find out more info about his workshop schedule.
In partnership with curator Haifa Bint-Kadi and the support of Yonkers Public Libraries and the library foundation and generous support from Con-Ed, a group of teens from all over the City of Yonkers have been meeting in the 4th floor gallery at the Riverfront Library every Friday. They wanted to create a safe space to learn about art, create art and to celebrate their differences. They have learned visual and textile art and gone on field trips to New York City, and they've learned the inner workings of a gallery. They have met and interacted with local artists who volunteered their time and love to support these creative teens by teaching them their art form. They call themselves, NEO. This Thursday we will celebrate their visual and performing art in our gallery at 5:30. They've worked hard to design an amazing exhibit and we hope you can join us to celebrate these amazing teens with their friends and family.
