Another busy week at the adoption center! We took in 66 animals and had 62 success stories!

With lots of dog adoptions and multiple transfers, we were able to open our doors to so many new animals in need. We have plenty of new faces looking for their forever homes, and we’ll continue updating our website throughout the week, so keep checking back!

One of those adorable new faces is Sturgeon, one of our amazing kittens hoping to find his forever family this week. Could he be the one you’ve been looking for?

❤️ Dear Future Family… I'm Still Trying ❤️

I've been waiting for you for a while now.

A whole year, actually.

The people at Okandogs tell me you're out there somewhere. They tell me that one day someone will see me and understand me.

I hope they're right.

Once upon a time, I didn't trust people very much.

The world felt scary, and staying away felt safer than letting anyone get close.

Then something happened.

People started giving me chances.

And I've been trying ever since.

I've been trying to learn that humans can be kind.

Trying to be brave.
Trying to trust.
Trying to believe that I belong somewhere.

Some days those things are still hard for me.

But I'm trying.

Every day.

I may never be the dog who runs up to every stranger as if we've known each other forever.

But when I love someone, I love them with my whole heart.

The people who know me say I'm loyal. They say I've come so far. Sometimes I hear them talking about how proud they are of me.

I like hearing that.

I love other dogs, too.

They help me remember that the world isn't so scary. I'd really like a confident dog friend in my forever home. Someone who can help me keep learning and keep growing.

Because I'm still doing that.

Still learning.
Still growing.
Still trying.

What I'm looking for isn't perfection.

I'm looking for someone who doesn't expect perfection from me, either.

Someone patient.
Someone gentle.
Someone who understands that trust isn't built in a day.

Someone who sees how hard I'm trying and decides I'm worth trying for, too.

And if you give me that chance?

I promise something.

I'll keep trying.
