What a great way to remember one of HFSDVs founding members!
** INTRODUCING THE 2026 DEBORAH PETERSON SCHOLARSHIP **
On the Army’s Strength, Inc. is incredibly proud to announce that applications are officially open for the 2026 Deborah Peterson Scholarship! Created in memory of our dear friend Deborah J. Peterson, this scholarship honors Deb’s legacy as a historian, researcher, educator, living historian, mentor, and generous sharer of knowledge.
Deb believed that research was meant to be explored, questioned, tested, and—most importantly—shared. This scholarship was created in that same spirit: to help another historian take meaningful research and develop it into something that can be shared with the public.
The 2026 recipient will receive:
- A $500 project stipend for approved research and project-development expenses
- One year of membership with On the Army’s Strength
- A professional photo shoot documenting the completed project or impression, including professional headshots
- Digital copies of their professional photographs
- A commemorative canvas print featuring an image from the photo shoot
- A Deborah Peterson Scholarship certificate
- A featured spotlight through OAS celebrating the recipient, their research, and their completed work
Who can apply?
Applicants must be 18 or older, reside in the United States, and be affiliated with an organization whose activities include interpretation of the American Revolution. Projects must be grounded in historical research and designed to create, expand, or meaningfully improve public historical interpretation. Historical impressions, demonstrations, material-culture projects, historic trades and skills, military or civilian interpretation, experimental reconstructions, educational programs, and other forms of research-based living history are welcome.
And perhaps most importantly: your project does not need to be finished to apply.
You do not need decades of experience, a perfect kit, or every research question answered. We are looking for quality historical research, thoughtful documentation, curiosity, and a strong foundation that this scholarship can help you develop into meaningful public interpretation.
