There have been commits that if New Hope School had gutters this would not have happened. If you will notice the tree in this photo, it is huge and many leaves are on the deck and also woods are 20 foot over from the school, gutters would not have help but an awning would have and was not put on when the school was being restored but should have been. We plan to put an awning at the back when the repairs are done, which was included in the grant that was written. Any responsible contractor would know to use flashing and treated lumber, and if he told the person or persons responsible it's on them. If this had been done correctly in the beginning, we would not be doing this now.

The photos here are of New Hope School. Due to improper construction and management the deck was made out of untreated lumber, as you can see it is rotten and must be replaced. After tearing the deck down, it was discovered the plywood was used from the deck down with no flashing and has rotted beyond repair, so all this has to be torn out and replaced.

We have applied for grants for the repairs to the deck with treated lumber and hopefully will receive them, but only one small grant has come through for $2500.00. That still leaves $8500.00 for the deck only. As I stated we are trying for a grant for this but have not received it yet. The grant application did not include the extra expense to replace the plywood with shiplap and flashing. All of this should have been done to begin with. The school has not been open to the public for over 18 months due to this hazard, and we hope to get it corrected.

Hello my Facebook Friends, The Cross county Museum & Archives has started collecting photos of our Military of Cross County. Our plans are to do a Hall of Honor for our veterans and service personnel of today. If you have an original photo off a service person in uniform, please bring it in. If you do not wish to donate the orginal, we will make a copy of it. We will need a copy of Photo, date of birth, date of entry into militaryk date of discharge and date of death if applicable, Pictured is of Simom "Bill" Slabaugh Jr., who served from November 1948 through 1953 during the Korean War. The Cross County Museum had there annual supper last Friday evening at Charlie & Bunny Brown's home. This is just something we do for fun and get to know each other a little better. We celabrated Robert Crawford's 90 birthday, even though his birthday is in November. This was the only time we had.

The Cross County Museum is pleased to announce that we now have CD's of "Toy Norwood" Live at Village creek. The cost is $20.00 and if you want it shipped add $5.00. This is an awesome piece of history that was in Parkin, AR. in the 1960's and 1970's.

With the help of Russell McMaster of Wynne, we were able to get an orginal vinyl 33 record transferd to CD's. Thank you Russ. Limited supply so come in and get your CD of "Toy Norwood" Live at Village Creek.

The Cross County Museum has been blessed this year with a grant from the Department of Arkansas Heritage and Entergy for Archival and artifact supplies. Rose Cornwell has many of the boxes in front of her that have been received, they are acid free and will preserve these items for many years. The item she is holding is a vintage apron from the 1920's dontated by the Howarth & Ella Taylor Family.
