It is a rare surviving piece of early colonial architectural history. The house comprises 4 different centuries of construction, starting with early post and beam in the third quarter of the 17th century to the final addition of a shed style kitchen added in the first quarter of the 20th century. Each of the century builds provided approximately 25% of the dwelling makeup. What makes the structure
notable is that it contains so much of its original interior fabric. While many owners of 18th century style homes profess platitudes of their homes' age and provenance, these structures are merely shells or facades of the past. Most of them are highly victorianized and or contrived; the upshot is that most of these owners have no clue to what an 18th century interior should look or feel like. Here on our site, owner/preservation scholar Gregg Perry will use it to educate the public to what is involved in every detail in the conservation/restoration of a period 18th century dwelling. From preventative degradation maintenance to world class woodworking and timber framing skills to the high-tech use of conservation materials used to stabilize, consolidate and replicate aging and abused fabric. His background is rooted in science, combined with 35 years of furniture making and high end furniture restoration.
