The Woodstock Museum will be OPEN Friday and Saturday this weekend from 1 to 4pm. The Museum year ends on October 31, so this is one of the last opportunities you will have to visit until next Spring. However, we are always happy to do private tours upon request, even during the off season! 😀

The Woodstock Museum of Shenandoah County, Virginia is OPEN Friday and Saturday 1-4 pm this weekend! Here's a photo of the large basement kitchen fireplace in the 1772 Marshall House. It was boarded up in the late 19th or early 20th century using a huge wooden shipping crate. A painted address can be seen, "G P Nelson (care) of O & A RRail Culpeper Va." We hope to eventually make the basement accessible to the public, but can only handle one big project at a time! We are awaiting the final re-drawn plans for the 18th century style Marshall House entryway, and look forward to receiving the permits to start construction soon.

The Woodstock Museum is SO thankful to be a recipient of a grant from The Shenandoah County Community Foundation. for restoration of the facade of the Marshall House!

The Shenandoah County Community Foundation has awarded $65,000 in grants to 28 nonprofit organizations, supporting projects ranging from housing and healthcare to child care, education, public safety and recreation.

The Museum will be OPEN Friday and Saturday September 18th and 19th from 1 to 4 p.m.!

This photo is a partial view of the basement in the 18th century section of the Marshall House. Through the doorway on the left you can see the boarded up wide cooking fireplace in what probably served as the kitchen. The wooden board wall with the doorway appears to be a late 19th century addition. There's so much we learned recently about the larger room with the grain bin! It was assumed that the floor was dirt, but discovered a thick slab limestone floor beneath about 3" of dirt!! The window is original, but will be closed up by the stone mason in preparation for the new entryway. Someday we will figure out a way to allow tours of the basement.
