It's not quite Winter, according to the calendar, but we're already thinking Spring! And we invite you to do the same between now and Jan 16.

Announcing our call for entries for A Feast for the Eyes, our annual Spring Focus exhibition.

What's special about our focus show is that each artist who is juried-in is invited to exhibit several works, not just one!

We are thrilled to host Karen Whitman's solo exhibition, Cityscape Noir - on view today through Jan 4!

Join us on Saturday, Dec 6 at 3pm for Karen's talk about her dynamic linocuts. Then stay for the reception for all our shows from 4 - 6pm.

Karen's solo exhibition includes a selection of linocut cityscapes that capture the complexity and spirit of New York City, along with delightful views of Woodstock.

Whitman's work celebrates the graphic clarity, dramatic contrasts, and angular structures that define the urban landscape. Working exclusively in black and white, Karen embraces the challenge of shaping narrative, atmosphere, and emotion through stark light, shadow, and texture.

Here’s a recap of our artists-in-residence and of who, over the course of seven weeks, transformed the YES Gallery into a research and design studio to develop a public art proposal for the 🍃

“Noticing American chestnut stump sprouts on Overlook Mountain during our first week in residence was the starting point for our project. We realized that the functionally extinct tree was a major presence in the forest at the time when ‘the story of modern Woodstock really begins’.

We are indebted to all those who stopped by during our residency to have conversations with us about the project.

We’d like to offer a special thanks to Tara Foley who invited us into the space.

Emily Jones, the dedicated archivist at WAAM, located information and artworks that were vital to our research trajectory.

Ira Brandes brought us a generous gift of two antique chestnut boards.

Leslie Ge**er, Woodstock Library trustee, invited us to speak with the library board.

We thank Woodstock Library director Ivy Gocker for embracing our project and joining us on our final day in residence to hear our preliminary proposal.

We look forward to making a formal proposal before the end of the year.”

Wondering what's next at WAAM?

After hosting our friends at the Woodstock Film Festival this past week, we're busy installing our SIX new exhibitions!!

All open on Friday 10/24 with talks and receptions on 10/25, 3-6pm.

In the Solo Gallery:
Join as at 3pm this Saturday, 10/25 at 3pm for artists' talks by six of our Active Members (artists who have gone through a rigorous jurying process): Joan Barker, Deborah Freedman, Dan Goldman, Maddie Goldman, Karen Schaffel, and Marianne Tully.

(This annual exhibition is coordinated by Active Member and Gallery Assistant, Sue DeSanna.)
