These little wooden trees have quietly become a favorite here in the gallery 🌲

Simple. Northwoods-inspired. And each one has its own character depending on the wood grain and shape.

They’re the kind of pieces people pick up “just to look at”… and then end up carrying to the register a few minutes later.

Bob isn’t sure if he can get these anymore, which means once our current collection is gone — they’re gone.

So if you’ve had your eye on one, this may be the time to stop in.

Available in the gallery while they last 🤍

Memorial Day weekend in the Northwoods always carries a certain feeling.

Cabins opening back up. Docks going in. The familiar sounds of summer slowly returning.

But today is also a reminder to pause and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country — and the freedoms that allow us to gather with family, spend time outdoors, and enjoy places we love.

As a quick reminder, Parkside Gallery is closed today. Tuesdays are available by appointment only, and our normal hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00am–4:00pm.

Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day from all of us at Parkside Gallery 🤍

People often ask us, “Why Parkside Gallery?”

Especially years ago, when the gallery was downtown… nowhere near a park.

What many don’t know is the story behind the name.

When Bob was around 22 years old and had his very first gallery space, a burly man wandered in after spending some time at The Thirsty Whale. He asked Bob what the gallery was called.

Bob admitted he hadn’t even thought about a name yet.

The man looked around and said, “Well… you’re by a park. Why not call it Parkside Gallery?”

And somehow, it stuck.

Three years later, Bob moved downtown to the newer location — and for many years after, people would still come in asking, “Where’s the park?”

Now, all these years later, Parkside Gallery is finally going to have its very own park again — and this time, it’s becoming something truly special.

Including this custom-built gazebo, built by Bob himself.

When Bob first mentioned wanting a gazebo at the new park, Jodi asked him, “Why a gazebo?”

And the answer goes all the way back to childhood.

At seven years old, Bob spent the night at his parents’ good friends’ house and felt incredibly homesick. Their family had an octagon gazebo, and he remembers spending time in it because it felt safe and comforting. Ever since then, he’s been fascinated by octagon gazebos.

Now, years later, he finally had the chance to build one of his own.

And now, in a way, Bob gets to share that same feeling of comfort with all of you here at Parkside Gallery.

This is only the beginning, and we can’t wait to continue sharing the unfolding of the park at Parkside Gallery with all of you 🤍

Bob’s piece “A Work in Progress” gives a rare look into something most people never get to see — the evolution of a painting from first sketch to finished artwork.

From the earliest pencil lines to the final layers of color, each stage tells part of the story.

It’s a reminder that paintings don’t simply appear fully formed. They’re built slowly, thoughtfully, one decision at a time.

And honestly, seeing the progression laid out like this makes you appreciate the finished piece even more.

Bob’s painting “Water Lily” is one of those pieces that always stops me in my tracks.

The depth. The vibrancy. The way the lily almost seems to glow against the dark water.

And then you start noticing the smaller details — the softness in the ripples, the tiny dragonfly resting on the pad, the texture and movement layered throughout the piece.

It’s calm and striking all at once.

Honestly, this is one I truly believe needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.

A frame can completely change a piece.

And with this many options, that’s where Bob’s experience really matters.

Every frame carries a different tone, texture, and presence — which is why Bob approaches framing as part of the artwork itself, not just something added at the end.

The right frame doesn’t compete with the piece.

It finishes it.

If you’ve spent any time on a Northwoods lake, you know the feeling.

That stillness…
the call of a loon echoing across the water…

“Turning Point” captures a quieter side of that story—an intimate moment that most never get to witness.

A mother on her nest… steady, watchful… protecting what’s just beginning.

It’s a side of the wild that’s rarely seen—and easily forgotten—but it’s everything.

Stop in to see this one in person, or explore more of Bob’s work at robertmetropulos.com

You don’t always see them first.

Sometimes it’s just a flicker of movement between the trees…
a pause…
and then they’re gone.

“Passing Through” captures that exact kind of moment—the in-between.
Not arriving, not staying. Just moving quietly through the woods like they always have.

It’s simple, but it’s real. And if you’ve spent any time in the Northwoods, you’ve felt it.

At first glance, it’s just a quiet moment.

Look a little closer… 👀

“Captured” has a detail most people miss the first time—and once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

That’s the beauty of Bob’s work. There’s always more waiting beneath the surface.

Can anyone spot it?

We won’t give it away—but we will say, it lives up to its name.
