This past Sunday in the museum, we were going thru some fabulous old post cards that were recently donated. We tried to date them from the presence of power lines in the picture, but we didn’t know when electricity came to Woodbridge. Now we know. This newspaper article from February 1, 1899, states that Woodbridge had power for 2 months. That means power was on sometime around December of 1898. This was street lighting, and not necessarily power to individual houses. Only 10% of American households had electricity in 1908, and 90% by 1949.
