Historical Library vs Archives. What's the difference? While there is a great deal of overlap archives tend to focus more on unique materials that may have different preservation requirements. Here is a great source to learn more about the difference: https://guides.lib.unc.edu/musicresearch/libraries-and-archives All though our name changed the mission at the Bryan-Lang never changed; preserve Camden county's history for all generations. This includes our own history such as our original sign which now hangs on the wall in our file room.

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day! While many nations called Georgia home; most in the lands of the future Camden County were the Timucuan people. The Timucuan tribes ranged from southern Georgia down through most of north Florida. Here are some great resources to learn more about them:

This week marks the anniversary of one of the costliest battles of the American Revolution, fought in Savannah on October 9, 1779.

During the Siege of Savannah, French and American forces launched an assault on British defenses in an attempt to retake the city. This circa-1780 map, surveyed by John Wilson, depicts the fortifications and positions surrounding Savannah during the battle.

February 3rd, 1985 was a Sunday; the last of a three day Celebration of Freedom. After a long weekend of many events to raise funds, the finale was the groundbreaking of the Bryan-Lang Historical Library. Ms. Bebe Lang, one our founders, was accompanied by Donald Mitchell, mayor of Woodbine, Ken Gay, Camden County commissioner, Eloise Bailey, library chairwoman and Eugenia Price, honorary chairwoman to break ground on our wonderful building. Despite a name change and over 40 years the shovel is still in good condition (although a bit rusty); in the last photo it is being held by our wonderful assistant archivist Calah in the very same spot as the original ceremony.
