It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Al Falkowski. Al was our trusted contractor who upgraded the windows and many other jobs at the Heritage Center. He was a great man with a big heart, always willing to help and always with a smile. His craftsmanship is part of this building, but his kindness is what we will remember most. He will be greatly missed by all of us at the Heritage Center. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

The Wisconsin Deerhunters, Inc. Witt-Birn Chapter has generously donated $5,000 to the Wittenberg Area Historical Society to help renovate our newly acquired Heritage Center!
We are working toward a $350,000 fundraising goal to fully complete this exciting project and create a place where our community’s stories and history can be preserved and shared for generations to come. “This donation goes a long way toward completing our mission of preserving Wittenberg area communities’ stories, celebrating our heritage, connecting generations, and inspiring the future,” said Society Vice President John Powers. We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Wisconsin Deerhunters and everyone who is helping us make the Heritage Center a reality!

We stopped in at the Langlade County Historical Society Museum today! So many interesting displays. Housed in the beautiful Carnegie Library Building at 404 Superior Street, Antigo. Thank you to Mike Clay for guiding us and offering insight to storage and display. If you care to visit the hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10-4. (Winter hours Thursday-Saturday.

About the house on Hwy 29; Oscar bought that property sometime in 1945 because in between these two houses, they lived in Wausau to farm another property owned by Cleve Guerin. Then in 1944 the barn burned down and they moved back to Wittenberg on Hwy 29.
You mentioned Andrew living in Galloway and the Homme Home. In 1911, when Oscar was born, his mother died four days after giving birth. As a result Oscar and his six older siblings grew up at the Homme Orphan Home because their father could not take care of them alone and the Homme Home was the only place that could take all seven children without splitting them up. Andrew later married Phyllis Paulson and her family was from the Galloway area.
"This is exciting for my grandma and I to finally learn where that house was located. I greatly appreciate all of your efforts! Whenever we make a trip going through Wittenberg we will definitely make a point of driving past Cleve Guerin’s old house and the location of Oscar and Elsie’s house. Thank you for taking the time to find those newspaper clippings. I am not subscribed to newspapers.com, so I can’t see many of those papers myself.

Thank you to Al Falkowski and George Blarek for their time and skill to the Wittenberg Heritage Center beautification — pouring and finishing the concrete apron, brick repair, installing windows and replacing sills. Your work is helping preserve our community history for the next generation.
