Iowa Quilt Museum We honor, inspire, and energize the quilting community with four new exhibits per year.

The Iowa Quilt Museum is housed in the historic 'JC Penney' building on the beautiful town square in Winterset, Iowa, and offers changing exhibits of American quilts both vintage and new. The museum welcomes quilters, quilt lovers, history buffs and all appreciators of American art and culture giving a new reason to spend time in a classic, rural town center. Pride and Joy has been my view from my desk since July and I’m going to miss their smiling faces so much! That being said, I also can’t wait to show you our next exhibit featuring Erick Wolfmeyer.

Reminder our museum will be closed while we prepare for Erick’s exhibit opening on Tuesday October 20th.

Don’t forget we will have a free sneak peek with grab and go donuts and coffee starts at 7am this Tuesday. Stop by on your way to work and have a free sneak peek with some grab and go coffee and donuts.

What a wonderful evening celebrating 10 years of the Iowa Quilt Museum!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Madison County Chamber Business After Hours, Gallery Reception, and 10th Anniversary Celebration!

It was especially meaningful to welcome members of our founding board, our very first museum director, Megan Barrett, and the VanScoy family, along with friends, supporters, and members of our community.

To everyone who attended, thank you for making our evening so special! We are grateful for the past 10 years and excited for many more.

WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU!
We’re celebrating tomorrow night, and you’re invited! 🎂

Join us at the Iowa Quilt Museum on Thursday, October 15, from 5–7 p.m. for our 10th Anniversary Gallery Reception. We’ll have light food, drinks, and—most importantly—cake!

Only four days remain to see our anniversary exhibit before it closes Sunday, October 18, at 4 p.m. Come enjoy the quilts and help us celebrate ten years of creativity and community.

I love when my two worlds collide!
Meet James “Jim” Davis, 88, and Sue Arnold, 84, who visited today from Northern California, where I grew up!

Quilts brought these two together.
Jim’s late wife owned a quilt shop in Berkeley, where Sue had been a customer and knew his wife. After both lost their spouses, Jim reached out to Sue about some antique quilts. Although Jim had known Sue’s husband in college, the two had never met, and they’ve been together ever since!

Now on a cross-country road trip, they stopped to revisit Jim’s Iowa roots. Jim was born in Iowa, but his family moved to California when he was a child. He traveled back to Iowa when he was a teenager to spend summers working on his uncle’s farm in Winterset. A visit to Winterset to find the family farm brought them back, and they decided a stop at the Iowa Quilt Museum was a must.

It was a joy to welcome them and share another connection to home: quilts from the Bay Area in our current exhibit. Here they are in front of Julie Silber’s House Quilt.
