The countdown is on, and only a few tickets remain for the 2026 Peacock Ball!

A cherished Winter Park tradition, the Peacock Ball is first and foremost an opportunity for our community to come together, reconnect, and celebrate the people, stories, and rich history that make our city so special. Even better, proceeds directly support the Winter Park History Museum and our mission to collect, preserve, and share our community’s history.

Board Member of the Month: Elizabeth Eschbach

This month, we are delighted to recognize Elizabeth Eschbach, a Winter Park resident of more than 50 years and a valued member of the Winter Park History Museum Board since February 2021. Elizabeth served on the executive team as secretary from 2022 through January 2025.

A professor of humanities at Valencia College for nearly 30 years and a lifelong student of world history and cultures, Elizabeth deeply values the Museum’s mission to collect, preserve, and share Winter Park’s history through engaging exhibitions and creative storytelling.

Elizabeth has especially enjoyed seeing residents of all ages come together at exhibition openings, speaker series, community events, and fundraisers to celebrate our town and its history.

“It has been a joy and a privilege to work with this dynamic team,” she shares.

After raising three children in Winter Park, Elizabeth and her husband, Phil, continue to treasure the community’s natural and cultural environment. They proudly support the Museum’s work to preserve Winter Park’s rich heritage for generations to come.

Every successful exhibit begins with a dedicated team working behind the scenes. Today, we’re celebrating the remarkable people whose creativity, talent and tireless efforts brought Golden Roots: The Citrus Legacy of Winter Park to life.

Dena truly wears all the hats—writing, researching, coordinating, installing the exhibit. You name it, she does it! Her attention to detail and dedication to making every exhibit exceptional are unmatched.

We are so grateful to Christy for all of her ideas, hard work and invaluable contributions. This is her final exhibit as Executive Director—and, if we may say so ourselves, it might be her best work yet! Her dedication to Winter Park and her love for its rich history have been tremendous gifts to the Museum.

Jordan, our Events Coordinator, supported us every step of the way and made sure every detail of the grand opening was just right. We are so lucky to have her on our team.

Our Board Chair, Rick Kilby, played an essential role in bringing this exhibit together. His leadership, guidance, time and thoughtful input have been invaluable, and his remarkable knowledge of Winter Park is a resource we deeply cherish.

Last but certainly not least, our graphic designer, Will Setzer, worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring our vision to life. We cannot thank him enough for helping us create such a beautiful exhibit.

What a way to open our newest exhibit!

On Wednesday evening, the Winter Park community showed up in full force to celebrate the grand opening of Golden Roots: The Citrus Legacy of Winter Park. We were overwhelmed by the incredible support and loved sharing this exhibit—and celebrating our community’s rich citrus legacy—with everyone who joined us.

A special thank-you to the City of Winter Park - Government for its continued support of the Museum, and to Sandy Back Porch for providing the perfect music and atmosphere throughout the evening.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the celebration so memorable!

The Winter Park History Museum is entering an important new chapter.

After six years of dedicated leadership, Executive Director Christy Knobloch is stepping down from her role with the Winter Park Historical Association and Winter Park History Museum. We are incredibly grateful for Christy’s creativity, commitment and many contributions to the Museum and to our mission of preserving and sharing Winter Park’s history.

As we begin the search for our next Executive Director, Dena Salas has been promoted to Museum Manager and will serve as Interim Executive Director, helping ensure a seamless transition and continued focus on the Museum’s mission, programs and community.

Applications for the Executive Director position are now open. We are seeking a leader who will help guide the Museum into its next chapter while strengthening its role as a vital cultural resource for Winter Park.

Discover Winter Park’s Golden Roots!

Before Winter Park became the “City of Homes,” citrus groves, packing houses, and railroads helped shape the community we know today.

Golden Roots: The Citrus Legacy of Winter Park explores the people, places, and innovations behind one of the most important chapters in our city’s history. Through historic photographs, artifacts, colorful citrus crate labels, and interactive experiences, discover how citrus transformed Winter Park’s economy and landscape—and connected our community to markets across the nation.

Meet the growers, workers, entrepreneurs, and families who sustained the industry for generations. Learn about the origins of the famous Temple Orange, Chinese American horticulturist Lue Gim Gong’s connection to Winter Park, and the contributions of African American families from Hannibal Square.

And there’s no better place to tell this story than the Winter Park History Museum, located inside the original Atlantic Coast Line Freight Depot—the very building where crates of Winter Park citrus once began their journeys across America.

Greetings from behind the scenes at the Winter Park History Museum!

We’re hard at work bringing our next exhibit, Golden Roots: The Citrus Legacy of Winter Park, to life. Our beautiful exhibit panels are going up, sharing the people, places, and stories that shaped Winter Park’s rich citrus history.

And today, we were particularly excited to welcome a new member of the Museum team — our orange-picker mannequin! Christy and Dena made sure he received a proper welcome.
