I stayed longer than I should have.

Not because I didn’t know something was wrong
but because people believed in the version of me I had built.

And I didn’t want to disappoint them.

Burnout doesn’t arrive loudly.

It shows up as numbness.

As doing “good work” without feeling anything.
As surviving instead of creating.

Closing my gallery wasn’t the hard part.
Letting go of who I thought I was supposed to be was.

In the space between one dream and the next,
I had to sit with myself without an audience.

No titles. No applause. No expectations.

That’s where Passports & Easels began.

Not as a brand or a business but as a way back to honesty.

This journey is about art as survival.

Travel as perspective.

And the courage it takes to choose truth over comfort.

If you’re in that in-between space…

If you’re questioning what you built…

If you feel tired but still hopeful...

You’re not late.

You’re not broken.

You’re becoming.

Follow along.

We’re going to allow art to become our passport to understanding humanity.

The journey starts in Thailand in Mach!

LET'S GOOOOOOO!!

I'm moving back to Thailand in March. I think it's time for me to go back and start some new global adventures that will help me reach my full potential.

When I first visited Thailand in 2017 it was supposed to be a 3 week vacation that ended up turning into a beautiful 2.5 year stay that was a game-changer. I came back to the states for what was supposed to be a 3 week speaking tour in 2019 but my grandma died and I needed to stay closer to home for a while so I spent a year and a half in South & Central America, then I came back home to Texas and opened Edom Art House which allowed me to pursue my passions and help others achieve their own artistic aspirations.

I was planning on opening another local art gallery between January & April in 2026 but my plans have shifted. I closed Edom Art House with plans of opening a new art gallery in downtown Tyler. I had the perfect location. I knew that I wanted to take a few months to decompress from Edom Art House while I made plans to open the new space and taking that time off gave me valuable insights.

I still have a passion for art and creatives so my new business structure is focused on helping artists on a global scale.

Thailand will be the beginning of my new travels but I plan on visiting places and experiencing art that I've never seen before. I've never been to Japan... haven't stepped foot on the whole continent of Africa... never been to New Zealand, Germany, or Antarctica.... I'll bet they have interesting art in those places and lots of artists with stories to share and unique creation processes. I want to start a YouTube channel highlighting various local cultures, art, and travel.

I think that art is important and I'm fascinated by learning how other people interpret and express their local world.

I'm also looking forward to reconnecting with some of my old Thai friends and other expats who have settled in the area.

I'm not gone yet :-) I'm just making preparations.

Ps: I have a lot of my handmade jewelry that needs to find some new homes since I'm going to be selling everything and taking nothing!

Pss: What are some of your favorite places around the globe that you've experienced art?

I spent the morning talking with my friends over at KETK NBC sharing stories of some of the artists represented at Edom Art House and talking about the upcoming move to the Tyler Art scene. Lots of good things are brewing and I'm grateful for everyone who's been on this journey with me. I've got some fun and inspiring things in the works.

Watch out Winnsboro!! I just spent the last 2 hours at Winnsboro Center for the Arts planning out two talks and a workshop focused on helping local business owners and artists learn how to easily use social media to drive more traffic and create more exposure for themselves.

I love sharing information and empowering people to use social media with a different intention that changes the results they get. I'm going to be teaching some simple, fail proof strategies that people will be able to walk away and see immediate results with. If you're in the area, you won't want to miss these opportunities to grow online. I'll primarily be focusing on Facebook, Instagram, and Google.... not so much TikTok since it's being purchased by Meta and a replacement is rolling out in September.

Stay tuned for more details and information on how you can sign up to take advantage of all the gems I'll be sharing.

Stop prostituting your gifts and talents! Stop looking for the short term wins and start focusing on ways and methods of developing consistency in your biz.

I get it! You want sales NOW!! But slinging your art at every sidewalk sale or flea market is like selling caviar at a hot dog stand. Sure, you might move a piece or two but it won't be to someone who truly appreciates, values, or respects your work. It'll likely be a one time sympathy sell from someone you'll never see again or someone who just likes nice art for cheap. The primary issue there is that it also leaves the artist feeling cheap 😕

Stop trading masterpieces for "exposure bucks" because exposure bucks don't stop your stomach from growling and they damn sure don't keep the lights on or help you buy more supplies. Painting by candle light became less attractive with the introduction of the light bulb.

Aunt Karen demanding a "family discount" on your 40-hour sculpture can go kick boulders with no shoes on! She can go skydiving with no parachute as far as I'm concerned. I would say that she can go to hell, but I don't want her down there with me. She's no better than the strangers who tell you that your work is too expensive. In fact it hurts worse coming from family. (I could go on a whole tangent about that and I might in another post.)

2025 NEWSFLASH!!

"Starving artist" isn’t fate, it’s a habit. And habits? They’re figureoutable and googleable. There's a myth that artists have to struggle before they get their big break and I'm here to tell you that's a lie! A lie from the pits of hell!! Get back satan!

Artists who want to sell more work, develop a base of buying collectors, and create a name for themselves... listen up.

SAY NO TO THE $50 BOOTH FEE SHUFFLE!
Instead...Save up for juried shows where people show up with actual art budgets in search of real artists creating real masterpiecs, like yours. Avoid flea markets or craft shows where the general mindset of the customer is to haggle or bargain shop. (Canton trade days for example)......

STOP FEEDING THE DISCOUNT DRAGONS!
Your art isn’t a garage sale find. Price it like the treasure it is and place it where serious buyers are. And Please! Please!! Please!!!!! Make your display look nice. Spend time on making your presentation memorable (Pinterest is free, ya know!) Get ideas on display setup and learn how to turn your booth into an experience. If your space looks like you don't care then your customer will assume that you don't care.... so, why should they care? Perception is everything! Perception increases perceived value.

Also, add a frame if it's on canvas...

"But Justin, I can't afford a frame".... to which I respond with...

"Facebook marketplace exists and craigslist is still going strong! Better yet, get on YouTube and learn how to build your own frame from free pallets you got from Facebook Marketplace because I know first hand that wherever there's a will there's a way!"

You have to make people want your work! Collectors and people with discerning art tastes will notice the small things! I guarantee it!

Your art deserves more! You deserve more! My mission is to stop ya'll from believing that being a "starving artist" in 2025 is acceptable when it's not.

Will every single piece you make sell? Nope...
Will everyone love everything you produce? Nah...

But if you continue playing it small, hiding in the shadows, going to events where your ideals customers can't be found, and prostituting your gifts and talents you'll keep believing that your work isn't good enough or that you're not good enough and that's just not true for most of you.

I want to uplift and inspire artists to be better. Follow my new page for marketing tips, upcoming workshops, and unique opportunities for artists to grow and develop themselves. There will be call for artists happening for my new gallery and I would love to see some new and fresh art.

Ps: You don't have to be in Texas to have your work represented by me or exhibited in my gallery and I love working with all types of artists! Jewelry artists, sculptors, painters, ceramic artists, fashion designers, people who make unique and interesting items... get at me!

Tag your favorite artist! Let me make some new friends.

Posting daily won’t save you if your content is as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

After 15 years of online marketing & branding, I’ve watched “consistent” posters get the engagement of a tumbleweed rolling through a ghost town..... because they don't provide any true value.

They host or visit “content parties”... (groups of people taking pics & videos of one another to post online for attention) and wonder why the internet barely shrugs when they post.

Spoiler alert: Your algorithm doesn’t care about your brunch pics.

Consistency is useless if you’re serving low-value fluff.

Posting “Feeling blessed!” beside a latte is not marketing... you might as well be shouting into the void while wearing noise-canceling headphones.

These generic posts fail because they're about as interesting as watching paint dry.

- You’re targeting EVERY HUMAN WITH WIFI (Pro tip: If your audience is “everyone,” you’re talking to no one).
- Your posts solve absolutely nothing (No, Brenda, your sunset pic isn’t thought leadership) and you sound like a motivational speaker who's missing the motivation.

When I first started in branding and marketing I used to yell “I HELP EVERYONE!” until I niched down to fitness brands.

Suddenly I had clients!! Why? What changed?

It's because I spoke their language:
-I knew their nightmares (empty gyms, low memberships, poor trainers with bad attitudes)
- I solved ACTUAL problems (used social media to speak to those nightmares and provided tips and tools that actually worked)
- I skipped the cringe-worthy “hustle” selfies that every single personal trainer online was doing. (I stood out by not being generic and doing what everyone else did, I skipped the trends sometimes)

NOW I HELP ARTISTS & ART CENTERED ORGANIZATIONS WHO WANT TO TURN BRUSH STROKES INTO BANK NOTES.

Less....“My art is for everyone!” → More..... “This is EXACTLY who I create art for.”

Result? Engagement that doesn’t sound like crickets practicing for the symphony.

Helping artists get clear on exactly who they are and who they create for is a true passion of mine. I meet too many artists who think they're work is for everyone and it's not!

STOP: Using social media for your own vanity (It's better to be profitable than popular because likes don't pay the bills.)
START: Talking to your DREAM CUSTOMERS like they’re actual humans with legitimate interests that you can tap into.

If you’re an artist/organization who:
- Thinks social media doesn’t work for their specific art...
- Shares art that gets about as much traction as bald tires on an oil top road after a heavy rain...
- Wonders why some people post things similar to you and get ALL the attention while you get none...

We need to talk about what it would look like for me to teach you and your people how to get noticed so we can take the screen door off the submarine, fix your strategies, and make your business float better.

My DMs are open when you're ready to start seeing results.

I’ll help you attract people who actually buy art not just your friends and family members.

(Or keep posting salad pics & selfies with motivating captions that only motivate people to swipe past you. Your digital coffin, awaits 😁)

Has anyone seen this man painting in downtown Tyler? Well, if you have.... his name is Sean Green and we met by pure happenstance. I was in the downtown area earlier tonight looking at a few potential spaces for Brown Art Gallery Tx and I missed my turn to get home. I drove around the square to get back on track and saw a man sitting on a scooter, peacefully painting under a street light.

I'd heard about "the painting man" but never met him. Someone posted his work in a local Facebook group 2 or 3 months ago and I've been hoping I'd get a chance to encounter him.

All I can say is WOW!!! I'm so glad I missed my turn to get home.

I ended up spending the next hour talking with Sean and learning about who he was and what motivated him to create art. His story is deeply inspiring and he's so full of life. It was absolutely amazing to me to learn about his past and to know that he still looks forward to a brighter future.

A few key things I took away from my time with Sean were:

1. Don't you dare judge a book by it's cover!! Sometimes people who look like they have nothing, have everything that money can't buy.
2. A little kindness can unlock major opportunities. Sean gave me ideas and turned me on to potential opportunities that I didn’t even know existed.
3. Some people get educated in classrooms and some people get educated on the streets, it's not always about where you learn... it's about how you apply and adapt.
4. Art is a healing tool and artists need platforms and avenues to be able to share their work. Serious artists will find a way to get their work seen, whether they're being represented in a gallery, slinging canvases from their garage, or painting on their scooter in the middle of the city at night under street lights.... artists who know their work is important will do whatever they have to do to get it seen.

After speaking with Sean, I knew that I was headed in the right direction with my vision for Brown Art Gallery Tx.

Art is supposed to connect, inspire, and stir emotion. It's supposed to create awe. It's supposed to cause confusion and clarity at the same time.

I've driven myself home from downtown 1,000 times and never missed my turn....Sean said that he wasn't going to come out and paint tonight but felt compelled to create.

If I hadn't missed a turn, or if he had ignored his impulse to create our paths may have never crossed but I'm sure glad they did.

Some of you know me. Some of you THINK you know me. Some of you just wanna try to get to know me (👀 hey, I see you).

Either way, let me reintroduce myself.

I'm Justin Brown and I'm stepping into a bold new chapter, and this one is all about helping artists, nonprofits, museums, and galleries turn brushstrokes into bank notes. Making art make money without selling your soul or your sanity.

So.......

• I cuss like a sailor… because I am one. (6 years, U.S. Navy. Honorably, of course. Hooyah!)
• I’m a big cousin. I show up at birthday parties, school events, bring snacks, and threaten anyone who makes them cry.
• I’ve traveled to 45+ countries (ask me about the time I haggled in four languages and still overpaid).
• I make wire-wrapped jewelry so pretty it'll make your grandma cry.
• I’m also a serial entrepreneur and an award winning marketing strategist who's helped creatives go from “posting and praying” to building brands that actually get clients.

Now here’s the big news:

On August 24th, I’m officially closing the Edom Art House chapter and starting a whole new masterpiece I'm calling Brown Art Gallery & Co. I'm still scouting the perfect location in Tyler, and while nothing’s set in stone just yet, the vision is big, bold, and absolutely worth the wait (I'm eyeing a launch in 2026).

In the meantime, I'm turning my full attention to helping creative folks tell their stories in ways that connect and convert.
No sleazy sales tactics. No dancing on TikTok (unless you want to).
Just real, thoughtful, strategy-backed content that makes people say, “Oh wow, I need to buy from or work with them.”

So what am I doing right now?

- Speaking Engagements:
Bring me in to energize your audience. I show artists, nonprofits, and cultural orgs how to use social media to reach real buyers, not just get ghost followers.
I’ve helped clients build MILLIONS of followers and even more importantly, actual income.

-Strategy Sessions:
Let’s take your vision and turn it into a digital game plan. I’ll help you stop boosting random Facebook ads and start attracting people who are actually interested in what you do. It’s branding without the burnout.

Let me be real....

MY SERVICES AREN'T CHEAP!!!

If you're looking for the cheapest option, you haven't found it in me. However, if you’re tired of throwing money into marketing with no visible return, I’m your guy. I can build a social media strategy that gets you and your organization noticed and has trackable analytics and metrics to show you EXACTLY how things are going so that we can course correct and fine tune things to get a predictable outcome every single time!

I don’t compete in price. I compete in results, value, and actual human connection.
If you're a nonprofit, art org, gallery, or museum that wants to actually see results from your marketing then book me to speak or let’s strategize.

Sometimes my talks are even FREE (because I believe in access, not gatekeeping).
Slide in my DMs to learn more.

P.S. Tag an organization that needs to hear this. Let's help creatives stop struggling in silence and start showing up like the legends they are.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Another day of "gallery hunting".....

Finding my next space is a lot more challenging than it should be lol! Why can't I just find the perfect "turn key" space located right in the middle of Tyler? 🤣🙄

Today was spent looking at places along broadway... mainly right in the center areas. I found a few spaces that were decent but nothing that I fell in love with.

Ideally I'd like to find something that's 3500 to 4000+ sqft so that I can roll out my 3 phase plan that's guaranteed to breathe new artistic life into all of East Texas.

Stay tuned. I'll be keeping you all up to date with gallery hunting, art pop ups, and sharing "Behind The Scenes" of me working with my artistic clients who want to build personal brands that help them to sell more art.

I'm excited about what's to come and I can't wait to find the perfect place for art to come alive.

There will be special announcements for artists who want to sale more work and opportunities for art patrons to find their next favorite piece of art or to support local artists.

Good things are abound, thanks for being on the ground floor with me.
