Some of you may recall that led a sketching tour of Windsor two years ago and offered one at the Vermont State House last year in cooperation with ICAA New England. He will lead a sketching tour at Lyndhurst during the Traditional Building Conference Series in October. David was patient with me, a mere novice, and he is equally skilled with experienced sketchers. Join us. Judy

Where did the historic marker at the southeast corner of Old South Church Cemetery
go? No, it wasn’t stolen; here is what’s happening:

Windsor’s Historic Preservation Commission is spearheading a project that will refurbish
this important historic marker and improve its setting, so that it is more accessible to
viewers.

The marker was donated in 1941 by the Daughters of the American Revolution at the
time of the Vermont Sesquicentennial Celebration. Despite the important information
provided on this historic marker, due to mid-century changes to the elevation of the
street and sidewalk, it has remained overlooked by pedestrians for many decades.
Once the corroded bronze plaque is repaired and reattached, the granite monument will
be moved closer to the sidewalk and the bank will be cut away so that observers may
stand closer to it.

Several individuals and organizations are assisting in this project, including Old South
Church, Windsor Improvement Corporation, Windsor Vermont Historical Association, Town of Windsor, Historic Windsor/Preservation Education Institute, and Vermont Division of Historic Preservation.

What information does the plaque provide and when will this project be completed? Stay tuned.
