These are scenes from last year’s Fall Harvest Festival. Be sure to join us tomorrow from 10-3 to see what we have in store this year. We’ve all been busy bees making the grounds ready for our visitors. There are games for the kids, great musical entertainment, burgers and dogs cooked up and dished out by Society members, tours of docent-led historic buildings, a Maker’s Market with varied vendors, and a White Elephant Sale, plus a whole lot more! Be sure to stop by!

October 9, 1940

Sunny. Walked out in the door yard for the first time since I was taken sick 9 weeks ago. Helen was in. Harry was in to see Margaret.

On a historic note: On October 9, 1940, John Lennon was born. He went on to become a musical legend as a member of the Beatles. Sadly, he was assassinated in December 1980 outside his NY city residence in the Dakota building. Not far away is “Strawberry Fields” a fitting memorial for a man who always wanted to “give peace a chance” and asked us all to”Imagine.”

It was a nice autumn day. Did a short leaf-peaking ride this afternoon. The colors on the way to Cornish were pretty and the fall feel was in the air. It was a short, but sweet break in a busy week.

The Historical Society’s Fall Harvest Fest is Saturday! Be sure to pay a visit to the Village Green at 234 Windham Center Rd in Windham and have some fun with history!

October 8, 1940

Buster is sick in bed with a cold on his chest. I stayed upstairs all day and and tended to Buster. Margaret went to Portland bought her a new coat and skirt.

Note: you might just meet Buster if you stop by on Saturday. He’s in his 90s, but still enjoys getting out from time to time. He will probably be at the Friends Church booth in the Maker’s Market if you’d like to say hello.

It was a beautiful autumn day. There was a scurry of activity on the Village Green getting ready for our Fall Harvest Fest!

Buster is sick in bed with a cold. I stayed upstairs all day to tend to him. It tired me awfully.

Cloudy. We went for a ride for the first time since I was taken sick. It tired me awfully. Had Dr. Hamblin for Buster.

Really had a fall feel outside today. The breeze was chilly, reminding us the north wind is not far behind.

Not sure what was happening with Alice Gilman today. She had no diary entrees either today or tomorrow. She only wrote that it was sunny on October 4, 1940.

We’ll be back on October 6 and hope the mystery will be solved.
