The Windham Museum is an interesting, fun place to learn, explore, and discover about the history of the town of Windham. Windham Museum is participating in America's 250th Windham Scavenger Hunt.

THE WINDHAM MUSEUM

The Windham Museum has entered into an agreement with the New England Historic Genealogical (NEHGS) to digitize our extensive collection of school records. The Windham Museum has a collection of records going back to 1850 from the seven one-room schoolhouses in town. The information in these records is a treasure trove of historical and genealogical information including names and ages of students, teachers’ names, curriculum details including textbooks used, descriptions of the conditions of the schools, and teachers’ salaries. NEHGS will be making a copy available to the Windham Museum for no charge, and publish these records on their website with the Windham Museum logo. This presents an opportunity to have a key collection digitized by an esteemed institution at no cost to the Museum. It will provide extremely positive publicity to the Museum and will make this significant material available to genealogists around the world.

THE WINDHAM MUSEUM

An Open House was held Wednesday evening, July 8th at The Windham Museum. Many attendees were participating in the America’s 250 Windham Scavenger hunt, including some local girl scouts. The trustees were grateful to receive a donation of a paper mache cow by Mary Long to add to our collection of items made by this artist from Windham. The Museum also received a collection of old deeds and documents from the 1800’s from the estate of Priscilla Low Pelletier, sister of Willis Low, longtime police chief of Windham. There are many familiar names in the documents, including Dinsmore, Cochran, and Nesmith.

The next Open House is Sunday, August 9th from 2:00 – 4:00.

The Trustees of The Windham Museum were very sad to hear of the passing of Frank Farmer. Frank was a founding member of the Windham Historical Society and was instrumental in the formation of the Museum. His death is a loss to the Town of Windham.
