Upcoming Workshop! Starting soon with Karen Klinedinst

Learn how to get the most out of your iPhoneโ€™s camera by exploring the iPhone native camera appโ€™s more advanced image capture capabilities.

Through demos and weekly class assignments, youโ€™ll be introduced to photo editing techniques with the Apple Photos app and Snapseed; how to organize your photos; and experiment with several creative post-processing apps.

This workshop is ideal for the photographer interested in exploring the creative capabilities of the iPhoneโ€™s camera and photo editing apps.

The ocean has always pulled at us. Our connection to the sea is woven into memory: summers at the beach, winter walks in the sand, storm waves crashing against the shore.

Stories about what lies beneath the tidal line have filled our imaginations for generations, with monsters, demons, and sirens lurking just past what we can see. We still feel that pull today, whether weโ€™re standing at the shoreline, walking along a pier, or simply watching the tide come in.

This exhibition, To the Sea, is an invitation to capture that connection. Weโ€™re looking for photographs of water in all its moods โ€” a wave breaking, the horizon at sunset, fog rolling over the harbor, a quiet cove, a storm rolling in.

Every photograph is a small piece of a much older story, the one about our pull toward the sea, and why, no matter how far we wander, we always find our way back to its edge.

Congratulations to the selected artists!

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ On view from October 13 โ€“ January 1, 2027

The Photograph as Haiku | Upcoming Workshop with M.H. Rubin (M.H. Rubin)

The Griffin Museum is pleased to present this four-session online workshop reimagining composition and storytelling through the lens of haiku.

Using examples from photographic masters such as Ansel Adams, George Tice, Harry Callahan, Andrรฉ Kertรฉsz, Elliott Erwitt, Edward Weston, and others, Rubin shows how great photographs inexplicably work through the same qualities that make haiku powerful.

The workshop also draws supporting lessons from related Japanese and Zen-influenced arts, including ikebana, ensล, kintsugi, and bonsai. These traditions offer useful ways to think about balance, imperfection, and attention.

Applied to photography, they can help students see familiar subjects anew and find new delight and challenge in their photographs.

The Griffin Museum of Photography is honored to present the work of ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ณ๐˜บ ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ฏโ€™s (Henry Horenstein) in our upcoming end-of-year exhibition, ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ ๐˜›๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ: ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜”๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜บ.

Since the 1970s, Horenstein has photographed across the countryโ€™s musical vernaculars, from country and blues to rockabilly and beyond, attentive to the people, rituals, and identities that surround the music. His ongoing H***y Tonk Revisited: 1975โ€”in progress extends this sustained engagement across five decades, expanding the idea of the h***y tonk beyond genre to encompass a broader American state of mind.
Within ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ ๐˜›๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ, his work underscores the exhibitionโ€™s central proposition: that music is inseparable from the places, histories, and everyday lives through which it takes form.
