New this Week: Adela Akers - Entrance/Exit

Spanish-born textile artist Adela Akers drew inspiration from the ancient weaving traditions of pre-Columbian Peru, which she encountered during a visit in 1965. In Entrance/Exit, she incorporates repurposed gold foil from w**e bottles, referencing perhaps the gold discs believed to have adorned ancient Peruvian textiles. Her work bridges historical techniques and contemporary material exploration.

Her unique approach melds traditional techniques with contemporary themes, creating pieces that resonate deeply with viewers.

New this Week: Chiyoko Tanaka - Six Squares

Chiyoko Tanaka weaves with the long tradition of Kyoto’s silk textiles behind her. For her, the process is the work: each weft thread is laid down one after another, an accumulation that marks the passing of time.

“A narrow width of fabric is given a timeless patina,” Sheila Hicks has written about her work. “She leaves us in suspended time with infinite beauty.”
