Want to share after having to relocate our town founder’s stone due to painting, we found it’s old frame was rotted, so after some redesigning in stainless frame and a LOT of elbow grease and diluted bleach I think it came out great. The original stone seen here was damaged and removed From greenwood cemetery, and replaced with a modern stone in 1976. The society preserves this for the future!

Found the monument to our local hero’s at the Gettysburg battlefield. Off the normal path requires a bit of hiking to get to it. Nonetheless it’s inspiring to understand our own Niagara County and Wilson boys fought and served here at the bloodiest battle of the civil war.

Many thanks to the Clark family and Niagara Erecting for helping us relocate the old pier marker light! Hahns Sales and service for blasting and re-painting. The light will soon be re-installed! This vintage marker light was saved by Floyd Clark years ago and has been hiding out back at the museum grounds. We decided to move it up front for more visibility!

I hope wherever you are today, at the 11th hour of the 11th day, of the 11th month, you remember 100 years ago the final end of the "Great War", World War 1 as it became known. A war that raged for 4 long years, and who many thought would never end. A war that started in Europe, but drew in conflict the world over. A war between royal cousins who saw all but one either deposed or murdered. A war that claimed 10 million war dead and 10 million civilians, and another 20 million injured. It literally reshaped the world we were left with. Many families lost loved ones both here in Wilson and the world over. Our modern day holiday of Veterans day was born out of "Armistice Day" - Today...the guns fell silent and it was over. at 11:00am on November 11th. This picture shows how across the world, people stopped in their daily activity and observed a 2 minute moment of silence. Try doing this today if you can and remember the lost victims of WW1 on this hundredth anniversary, and now also all the other veterans who serve in our military. Say a prayer if you believe for their safety, their service and their sacrifice.

**About Dinner Tickets**

Many have been asking, and here are the details:

The Historical Society & Bicentennial Committee would like to thank our entire community for the intense interest in our kick-off dinner coming up on April 7 the at the Wilson House. Due to the limited size of the venue we are restricted on the number of tickets available. After including invited guests and officials, committee members, town & village personnel, board members and their spouses, very few remained. In fact, each committee member had only 6 tickets designated to them to sell. We apologize in advance that many people will be unable to attend due to the lack of available tickets. Please note, there are several people who have claimed tickets but not yet paid for them. They have been given a deadline for payment before their tickets are released back for sale again. There is a waiting list and these will be offered to those people on the list on a first come first available basis.

Please also keep in mind there are going to be many other events throughout this special year. The kick-off dinner is not the only event celebrating our town’s bicentennial. Please check your Bicentennial calendars, officially sponsored social media platforms and community mailers for upcoming events.

Thank you,
Wilson Historical Society
