Owner and stained glass instructor, John Schum, has over 30 years experience in working with stained glass. He is known for his window and lamp restorations and beautiful commissioned pieces that he has created. John is also president of the Wilmington Community Arts Collaborative .

In the Fused Glass Workshop, each student can create up to 4 glass ornaments.

We’ll provide you with instructions on how to safely handle glass and how to use the specialized tools. Then, you will begin to use these tools and supplies to transform mere pieces of colored glass into your own beautiful creations.

The supplies include glass frit (granulated glass), stringers (glass shaped like spaghetti), and other precut shapes or pieces of sheet glass.

Artists of virtually any skill level can create suncatchers or ornaments that would be perfect for gifts, holidays or other special occasions.

Friday, October 18th: 6pm – 9pm OR
Saturday, October 19th: 11am-2pm

Cost: $45 per person

Note: Workshop will be cancelled if less than 3 students sign up. Fused art pieces will be available for pick up 1 week after class.

Wilmington Wine Walkers 2024! We look forward to your visit today at the South Street Gallery. We will be serving a German Liebfraimilch, reisling wine.

We have made a few cosmetic changes at the South Street Gallery as we prepare for our 15th anniversary at the same location! Cheers!

Goooooood moooorning Wilmingtoooners . . .
Ok, I did kind of purloin that little tid bit from Robin Williams. But I think you get my drift.
The shop renovations are finally . . Well, no
they're not done yet. But they're so close so, so very close.
Between you and me, it still looks like a hoarders storage locker in here. But, the new stairs going down into the basement in the back room are in .
The back room has a fresh coat of paint. The new LED lights are strategically dangeling from the ceiling so that now you will be able to see every teenie, little bitty thing in your project that either makes you grin so big, that your new store bought teeth dry out, or make the hair stand up all overyou as you gaze upon that one single bevel that you soldered in upside down.
Yep . . . don't feel like the Lone Ranger. It happens to all of us from time to time.
The new, fresh from Lowes, flooring is down.
And jody found us 6 or 8 of those chrome plated restaurant cooler racks for the new basement supplies area.
Current estimates on when the Grand re opening is going to happen range from 2 weeks to YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!

You know there's nothing new about renovations taking longer that you thought.
Well, when you don't do this sort of thing every day, it should come as no real suprise.
So, what can you do when there's nowhere to sit in the classroom or anywhere else, for that matter.
Carpe' Diem, my friends! You take a road trip to Jungle Jim's. We traced our steps while we were there-- and got completely, utterly, and hopelessly lost several times. On the upside . . . we logged in well over 10 thousand steps!
We will be announcing new class schedule soon.

We are moving forward...or backward depends on what door one enters when coming to the South Street Gallery! We are now working in the backroom. Should you see a "Pod" behind our shop it is holding all the treasures from the back of our shop. We foresee another month before we will be open for business.

UPDATE on South Street Revamp ....we have lights! For a number of weeks we had been at a hault for lighting but that has changed! Our classroom, office, and backroom are looking....messy right now! But we have light! 😎

If you peek into the front room (the gallery) you can't help but notice the mess or as I'd like to think displaced stained glasd treasures.

We have been asked, when will we be open or have classes. Our goal is to be open by the end of March. Sorry about any inconvience.

A beloved downtown Wilmington landmark, South Street Gallery, is celebrating its 15th anniversary on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 39 N. South Street. A highlight of the celebration will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m., hosted in partnership with the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Wilmington. Guests will enjoy live music, light refreshments, and snacks, along with a chance to win glass classes or workshops in a raffle. The community is invited to celebrate this milestone and explore the enduring beauty of stained glass at this special event. Founded in 2008 by John Schum, the Gallery has become a cornerstone of Wilmington’s artistic community. Known for its striking 13-foot stained glass awning, designed and created by John and his students, the Gallery showcases the vibrancy of local artistry. John’s journey with stained glass began nearly 40 years ago, inspired by a PBS NOVA program. After honing his craft in a spare bedroom, he opened his first studio in 2003 and later established the Gallery as a space for both education and creativity. The South Street Gallery offers stained glass classes, fused glass workshops, and a venue for local artists to display their work. Notable contributions include stained glass installations at McCoy’s Catering, local churches, and restaurants. What a week for the South Street Gallery! We took a four hour . . .yes, four hour, road trip to Salem, Ohio to deliver a round Stained Glass window that we had made for them. Since we were close to jody's hometown, we went through parts of Mill Creek Park and the home she grew up. Did you know it was a 3 mile hike (one way) to her elementary school...the poor girl! We returned safely to conduct fused glass workshops (Friday and Saturday)! Wilmington and the surrounding area have a wealth of such talented people!
