🦕🦖The next stop on my dinosaur and fossil-themed road trip was Dinosaur National Monument, only about 20 minutes from Vernal, Utah!
🦴 The highlight is the Quarry Exhibit Hall, where you can see more than 1,500 dinosaur bones still embedded in the rock where they were discovered. It is essentially an entire wall packed with real fossils that you can view up close and even touch in a few places.
📸 Pictures simply don’t do this place justice. If you are anywhere near Vernal, I definitely recommend making the trip!

🦕 Next stop was Vernal, Utah, a town that fully embraces its dinosaur heritage!
Vintage dinosaur models are scattered throughout town, including the famous pink dinosaur that’s nearly 70 years old. There are also some fantastic ones at the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum that look like they could have been models for The Far Side comics.
I’m so glad they’ve preserved these incredible pieces of historic dinosaur art instead of constantly replacing them to keep up with our ever-changing ideas of what dinosaurs actually looked like. They’re a fun glimpse into how we imagined dinosaurs decades ago and have become attractions in their own right.
Of course, the Field House also has some incredible real fossils and impressive skeletal reconstructions on display. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area!

💩🪨 There’s nothing quite like splitting a rock in two and finding a fossilized turd that’s been hiding inside for millions of years.

On my dinosaur and fossil-themed road trip, I stopped in one of the best fossil towns in the world, Kemmerer, Wyoming! 🦖🦴

I kicked things off with a cup of coffee from Fossil Fuel Coffee Company (great name!), then headed across the street to Tynskys Fossils to check out their showroom and pick up a few new pieces for the Poozeum.

Next stop was Fossil Butte National Monument to see their wall of fossilized poo... in the bathroom. 💩😂 I’m pretty sure this will be the only bathroom selfie I ever take.

Then it was time to get dirty and go fossil hunting at Fossil Lake Safari by FossilEra Adventures! (future post) ⛏️🐟

🇺🇸🎂I had the pleasure of welcoming U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Rachel Campos-Duffy, and their family to the Poozeum during their journey celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

🦖💩 It’s an honor to see my little fossilized turd museum become part of this historic celebration!

A great video about coprolites, or fossilized dung! It even features Barnum or record-setting T. rex turd! 🦖💩

You never know who’s going to walk through the doors of the Poozeum.

This is Sápi Vivien Official, from Hungary. She graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering, but a desire to see the world led her to become a flight attendant. Then COVID hit, she was laid off, and suddenly the path she had planned disappeared.

Instead of giving up on traveling, she created a new path.

Since then, she’s built a business around her personal brand, become a successful travel influencer, modeled, acted on television, and continued exploring the world.

A pretty great reminder that sometimes an unexpected detour can take you somewhere you never imagined.

Blood Amber: Fossils, Fortunes, and Survival is a thriller that explores the complicated world behind extraordinary fossils, shining a light on questions of fossil ownership, private collecting, scientific access, money, and the human cost of the fossil trade, while leaving readers to draw their own conclusions.

The novel also draws heavily from my own life, including my path to opening the Poozeum and traveling the world in search of coprolites, better known as fossilized p**p, for the museum’s collection.

Inspired by real events and the controversies surrounding Burmese amber, Blood Amber blends adventure, suspense, science, and a glimpse into a fossil trade most people never see.

I’m also grateful to Burmese photojournalist Hkun Lat for allowing me to use his powerful photograph of an amber miner in Kachin State, Myanmar, for the cover.

This will most likely become the most expensive fake fossil ever sold, and rightly so. It is the original piece of amber that started the entire Jurassic Park franchise.
The bidding is already at $100,000, and it will likely go much higher.
Now I just need to win the lottery. Ugh.
