Parkers Crossroads Civil War Battlefield Confederate forces led by Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest met Union forces led by Gen. Jeremiah C. Sullivan Dec. 31, 1862 B. Forrest’s First West Tennessee Raid.

The battle took place, December 31, 1862, during General N. It was significant for Forrest’s unique use of artillery against infantry and famous for its Confederate commander’s brazen maneuvering resulting in his famous command “charge them both ways!”
The battlefield is located at the intersection of I-40 & Hwy. 22, Exit 108 mid-way between Memphis and Nashville, approximately 10 miles north of

Lexington, Tennessee. The self-guided tour brochure containing a map and other historic details needed for the tour may be picked up at the Southwest Tennessee Log Cabin Information Center located on Hwy. 22 approximately one-half mile south of I-40

Tennessee Historical Commission-owned site, Salem Cemetery Battlefield Historic Site and Park, recently honored former Friends of Salem Cemetery chairman, Dr. Charles W. Cox, MD, with a chairman emeritus plaque for his many decades of Civil War research and work in Jackson and Tennessee.

The Friends of Salem Cemetery supports the State-owned 125-acre battlefield park managed by Madison County, and located on Cotton Grove Road, where the 1862 Civil War battle was fought. The Friends of Salem Cemetery Historic Site is a community fund within the Community Foundation of West Tennessee that augments the burgeoning property. Visit www.salemcemetery.org for more info.
