Museum opens at 2:00. Presentation at 2:30 at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy Library. Cemetery tour to follow.

Meet your guide to New England’s gravestones 🪦Derek Strahan is the managing editor and primary author of Lost New England, host of the Western Mass History Podcast podcast, and author of two local history books, Lost Springfield, Massachusetts and New England Then and Now. He specializes in early New England gravestone carvers and runs Derek Strahan, where he’s built a following for making these stones and their stories come alive 💀

Derek joins us Sunday, October 18 for “Carved in Stone: Gravestone Art & Symbolism,” followed by a guided walk through Adams Cemetery.

Winged skulls. Cherubs. Willows & urns. 🪦 New England’s gravestones changed dramatically between the 17th and early 19th centuries, and every carving says something about how people understood life, death, and remembrance 💐

Join us Sunday, October 18, for Carved in Stone: Gravestone Art & Symbolism with author and historian Derek Strahan of Gravestones of New England and Lost New England. Following the presentation, Derek will lead a guided walking tour of Adams Cemetery, Wilbraham’s oldest burial ground, where you can see the symbolism up close on the town’s earliest surviving gravestones.
