The Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum welcomes the support of volunteers. We partner with Volunteer Kansas and VolunteerICT to provide a listing of current opportunities. Friends of the Historical Museum is a diverse group of volunteers supporting the Museum through their work, in ways that reflect the Museum’s mission and vision; enhancing visitor experience and attracting the public with all the Museum has to offer. Friends Volunteers include: Docents, Committee Members, Program and Event Support, Museum Store/Gift Shop Attendents, and Trustees. Vision
To provide a world class Museum experience, advancing the understanding and
exploration of the rich historical and cultural heritage of Wichita and
Sedgwick County Kansas. Mission
The Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum's mission is to educate the
community and its visitors about local history by collecting, preserving,
and interpreting materials reflecting the heritage of Wichita and Sedgwick
County.

There are still a few slots available for our annual Cursive Writing Workshops at the Historical Museum!

Children, teens, and even young adults are invited to join us for a FREE two-day Cursive Writing workshop!

RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.

Once a favored means of communication, cursive writing is becoming a lost art. Many schools no longer teach this skill, but the Historical Museum does! All ages are invited to learn and practice the skill of cursive handwriting. An experienced teacher will guide you in forming upper- and lowercase letters and in writing your full name. We recommend coming on both days.

Cursive Writing Workshop (Ages 7-12): July 14th & 15th, 1:00-3:00 pm
Cursive Writing Workshop (Ages 13+): July 16th & 17th, 1:00-3:00pm

Classes will be held in the Education Room on the 2nd Floor (across the hall from “A Child’s World” exhibit). A complementary tour is also included.

Although the land we call Kansas has changed greatly since 1776, it was already a dynamic cultural and environmental landscape before the “founding fathers” forged a new nation. Human activities and natural processes alike had transformed Kansas over the course of millennia as a changing climate, Indigenous burning practices, dynamic waterways, and other developments shaped and reshaped what became the Sunflower State.

Join us in three weeks, as Adam Hodge presents Kansas 1776: A Dynamic Landscape at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum.
