Last Saturday, we hosted the opening reception for "Weapons of Choice Photographic Exhibit: The Artist, Architect & Activist" πŸ’›

This collaborative exhibition showcases the diverse talents of renowned photographer, artist, and activist Gordon Parks, architect Charles McAfee, and the emerging voices of the Youth of the Wichita Community. Each artwork in this collection will offer a unique exploration of artistic expression, delving into the realms of photography, applied art, and architectural interpretations. Additionally, student works from Wichita middle school and high school students depict societal injustices as seen through the eyes of the youth, inspired by Gordon Parks.

This collaborative display is presented by Gordon Parks Academy, Ulrich Museum of Art, Shift Space, Cadman Art Gallery and the Wichita Chapter of Links, Inc. The exhibit will be open through the month of March!

People, Pride and Promise is a travelling exhibit that for the month of January will be proudly displayed in the Cadman Art Gallery! This exhibit explores how early Civil Rights Era lunch counter protests helped shape and transform the struggles for racial equality in America. Through historical contexts and articles, you will get to know the little-known story of the Dockum Sit-in, as well as the story of Dr. Galyn Vesey, who was among a small group of students that led this historic protest on July 19, 1958. Sponsored by the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.

Enhacing the Student Experience

The Cadman Art Gallery at Wichita State University exists to provide students an outlet for their creative endeavors. To exhibit in the Cadman, students must apply, interview and be selected by a panel of Wichita State peers, staff and faculty. Once selected, they are guided through the process curating their show, installing their works and the marketing of their exhibit.
