• • Dec 1st marks world AIDS Day, meant to show support to those living with HIV and also, those who have passed due to the AIDS epidemic.
While “Remembrances” does fall on world AIDS day, we are opening up our event to a wider audience. We are inviting everyone who has had a loved one pass on, regardless of if it was related to AIDS, to bring a photo copy of said loved one to be apart of our paper quilt. A way of bringing all these stories and lives together in a celebratory manner.
We are very excited to see the community come together in this way, and want to thank Fisch Haus for letting us use their space for this event 💛
As stated in the post, the show will take place at Fisch Haus, 524 S Commerce street. Refer to our stories on our profile to get a better look at how to enter the building.
🚧 Be aware there is construction near the building, but they have made sure to make the entrance accessible to us 🚧
See you there!

• • It’s important to remember those who are no longer with us. In 2015, the Names project in Washington DC brought together thousands of those who’s friends or family have fallen victim to the AIDS pandemic in a memorial quilt. The memorial quilt weighed approximately 54 tons, and In addition to highlighting the stories of the victims, the quilt also served as a memorial for AIDS victims who were denied funerals in the 1980s.

On Friday, December 1st, Shiftspace will be hosting a show called “Remembrances”, inspired by the Names Project. In collaboration with , we will be putting on a one night show where we encourage the community to bring in a photo copy of a loved one who is no longer with us. Unlike the names project, we are opening up Remembrances to a bigger audience and allowing those who have no relation with AIDS to participate as well. Together, we will make a paper quilt that will be hung up in the FISCH HAUS gallery.
Refreshments will be served, as well as a movie. More information to come!

Fisch Haus is very pleased to continue our role as community partner for this year’s Tallgrass Film Festival. We love Tallgrass! The film we’ve been assigned this year is again a perfect fit, and we’re super excited to see it. Join us at 3pm on the 7th at WAM to see ‘Hello Dankness’.

Synopsis:
Comprised entirely of hundreds of film samples, Hello Dankness is a political fable that bears witness to the psychotropic spectacle of American politics from 2016 to 2021, and the mythologies and lore that took root around it. Taking form as a suburban stoner musical, the film follows a neighborhood through these years as consensus reality disintegrates into conspiracy and other contagions. What unfolds is a rogue retelling of history in which hotdogs debate the culture wars, trashcans preach QAnon, zombies rally for revolution, and real events are refashioned as Broadway bangers from Cats, Les Miserables, Annie, and The Phantom of the Opera. There are songs and dancing, moments of menace and melancholy, sh*tposting and deep sincerity. The cast of characters include Tom Hanks, Annette Bening, Bruce Dern, Ice Cube, Wayne and Garth, Maya and Ana, Rue and Jules, Seth Rogan and Reyn Doi. American politicians play themselves, with Jesse Eisenberg in the role of Mark Zuckerberg, and The Phantom of the Opera as Vladimir Putin.

Our annual (once again) Living Statues collab with Ballet Wichita is tonight, May 5! The dancers will be posing from 7:30-9:30 in short 3-5 minute poses, to music by our guest artist Nick Jaina, so come by tonight to draw, paint, photograph, or just enjoy. We have art supplies (paper, pastels, charcoal, conte, pencils, etc) if you can’t bring your own. Bonus: FH artist Jamie Tabor is showing a collection of new paintings, entitled Lines, in BildLab, our second floor gallery. Double bonus: Nick Jaina’s Spektrum Tea Service project runs this weekend to the 10th, so get your tickets now! All info is available on our website, at fischhaus.com.

P.S. We wish we could credit the drawing in this post: it was left behind after a Living Statues event several years ago and we loved it so we kept it. Please let us know if it’s yours and we’ll credit you. Or give it back if you want it!
