Exploring Concertina Book Variations

The concertina (accordion) fold is one of the earliest book forms. Artist Honore Lee will lead students through a brief discussion of the history and variations of this type of book, as well as its narrative potential and versatility as a 2 and 3 dimensional work of art.

Through the course of this two-day class, students will create 5 variations of the basic accordion fold in preparation for a deeper exploration into a fully developed book. Contents will include imagery and text using materials that students bring to the class as well as some provided by the instructor. Examples provided by instructor will be helpful as prompts for concept and content.
