In Our History:

City of Wheatland was incorporated by act of Legislature on April 13, 1874. A Justice of the Peace was appointed, and the Wheatland’s first official volunteer fire department, the Wheatland Hook and Ladder Company, was formed. At this time the town’s population was about 900, of which 300 were Chinese.

The Wheatland History Museum is open from 10am-2pm tomorrow, May 2nd in the Little Red School House at 111 Main Street. Come in and find out about the history of the Wheatland and so much more! First Annual Pet Parade was organized by Mabel Yank, a Wheatland Elementary teacher.

Wheatland Hop Riot at the Durst Ranch results in four deaths, including the Yuba County District Attorney, a deputy sheriff, and two hop pickers. An arrested hop picker hung himself in the Yuba County Jail resulting in the fifth death.

Did you know what happened in 1876 here in Wheatland? A group of farmers, led by James Haskell Keyes, filed the first double-action lawsuit in California to ban hydraulic mining. It would take over 8 years of litigation before they triumphed over the mine owners. Want to know more about Wheatland’s history? The museum is open from 10 am - 2 pm today in the Little Red School house. 111 Main Street, Wheatland.

The Wheatland History Museum is open this Saturday, May 3rd from 10 am - 2 pm. Come visit and enter our free raffle! Includes a one year individual membership, 2 books on the history of Wheatland, a Wheatland History Museum tote bag, along with historical handouts. Please—one entry per visitor. Drawing will be at the end of the Wheatland Lion’s 101st Pet Parade on May 17th.
