On SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, at 3 pm in the Town Hall, renowned historic shipwright ROB STEVENS will tell the tale of an epic Maine event in the American Revolution: Benedict Arnold's expedition to capture Quebec City from the English. Rob will describe how, in the fall of 1775, Benedict Arnold led over 1,000 American soldiers on a grueling journey up the Kennebec River and through the Maine wilderness to attack Quebec City. Among the soldiers in the expedition was Westport's own Jonas Shattuck, who, with his brother, was an original owner of the Upper Heal Mill.
Rob Stevens is from Woolwich and is a member of the Arnold Expedition Historical Society. In 2017, he retraced Arnold’s historic trek in a boat, and he's built four replicas of Arnold’s batteaux.
