Today we’re highlighting a striking piece from our collection: a Vintage Slag Glass "Dolphin" Covered Dish. 🐟✨

Commonly referred to as "Chocolat" or "Caramel" slag glass, this piece is a beautiful example of the marbling technique popular in late 19th and early 20th-century pressed glass. By mixing two or more colors of molten glass—in this case, a creamy opaque white and a rich chocolate brown.

Did You Know?
In the world of antique glass, "Dolphin" doesn't always refer to the mammal! This stylized, scaled creature is a classic Neoclassical motif often found in Victorian-era glasswork, appearing on everything from candlesticks to compotes.

• Manufacturer: Attributed to companies like Westmoreland or Greentown (Indiana Tumbler & Goblet Co.).
• The Detail: Notice the intricate scale pattern and the playful "miniature fish" finial on the lid.
• The Material: Slag glass was often made using iron slag, a byproduct of steel production, which gave it its unique opacity and weight.

What do you think? Is this a masterpiece of Victorian kitsch or a coastal classic? Let us know in the comments!

This stunning Vaseline Stretch Glass bowl (ca. 1917–1920s) perfectly captures the elegance of the early 20th century. Named for its signature yellowish-green hue, this footed decorative bowl features a delicate iridescent "stretch" finish and is framed by striking black enamel bands on the top and bottom rims.

Measuring nearly 10 inches across, it’s a brilliant example of Art Deco-era craftsmanship.

Object Spotlight
• Name: Decorative Footed Bowl
• Era: ca. 1917–1920s
• Dimensions: 9.88" Diameter x 6.75" Height
• Catalog No: 2017.111.97

Fun Fact: Vaseline glass gets its unique color from a small amount of uranium added to the glass melt—which means it actually glows bright green under a UV light! 💡💚
