The April 21 Frostbite Tour was a great success!

By: Mike Meyer and Arturo Marron

Despite an early (8:30 am!) start from Naperville, 19 pre-war cars were ready to make the trip to Two Brothers. There were 12 Model Ts, 7 Model As and a 1973 Dodge Sportsman Van as the support vehicle. Several people also met up with the tour at the stops at Two Brothers, Portillo's and the Wing Mansion.

In all, 23 vintage cars participated in the tour with a total of 50 people in attendance. The club cars were well received by the Two Brothers Cars and Coffee attendees and provided a nice m contrast to the newer cars in the lot. While at the Roundhouse, the tour was joined by a '72 Buick Riviera and a 38 Buick coupe. We enjoyed seeing The Mullet Mobile do some wheelies and shoot flames while at Two Brothers - quite a ride to be sure. Not for me everyday but it was interesting to see. The lot had many other interesting cars to see and the interior of the vintage building was inspected by many attendees.

After a scenic drive through the farm roads of Kane County and lunch at Portillo's, the highlight of the day was the visit to the Wing Mansion. Steve and Peaches were great hosts and a big thanks to them for their hospitality. Both the history and the contents of the home were of great interest. Hard to really describe it as one needs to consider on which facet to focus.

The recreated Victorian wall paper in all the rooms, the stunning collection of cut crystal, the wide array of period lamps, the beautiful woodwork in the different rooms, the intricate painting on the home exterior, the vintage Toro lawn mowers, the collection of Toasters, TVs and other artifacts of a time gone by, or the Appletree Record shop in the basement. And more.

Overwhelming and amazing are the words that keep coming to mind. After a couple hours enjoying the Wing Mansion, a small group stopped at the Elgin DQ for some more sweets and everyone headed for home. No break- downs on the drive and the weather cooperated. A great success.

Thanks to all who joined the tour.

Fall tour ❤️ Thank you Tom and everyone that helped organize this wonderful day!

63 people and 17 antique cars met at the Elgin History Museum for breakfast treats and hobnobbing with members of the Illinois Region Brass Touring Group. We enjoyed a pleasant presentation of the Elgin Road Race filled with fun facts and artifacts housed in a beautifully restored 1800’s downtown structure.

Next we trundled along the Fox River to lunch at an old lodge style pizzeria. We shared good food and great stories around a warm massive cobblestone fireplace.

With the autumn sun still shining, we traveled through rural roads lined with colorful trees to our afternoon ice cream stop at The Milk House Ice Cream. Among the rustling of leaves, we again explored each other clubs’ automotive specimens, as seasoned members shared laughs with the younger generations.

Thank you again to our hosts and all who attended!

Ready for more Model T Camping!?! This event is September 2023, nearby in Southern Indiana!

At the National Motor Camp, the goal is to simply lose ourselves in the early 20th century and enjoy the early days of touring, camping, fishing, and taking in the sights. By the 1890's Americans were beginning to explore the nation's new National Parks and by the early 1910's, the ubiquitous Flivve...

Model T Ford Camping Overnighter LONG VIDEO :

Thank you Andy & Joe for an excellent Tour! We had perfect weather, fabulous food, no bugs, and amazing memories!!! We had 11 T’s, 3 A’s, 2 Art-Deco coupe and sedan, old F100, and a modern trailer for all our luggage and gear. We traveled from the suburbs of Chicago, out to the rolling Rock River Valley for 3 days and 2 nights of camping!

Friday: we started at Friendly Ford Inc. of Roselle, IL and drove west to Sycamore where we picked fresh sweet corn for later dinner. Next we continued along the old Iowa-Chicago Trail to Oregon Illinois for lunch. Then we set up our camp at Lowden State Park (or checked into the nearby riverside hotel). Afternoon ice cream was enjoyed at Dairy Queen , then we headed back to relax and prepare for camp site community dinner. A wonderful Corn Boil with Award winning Ream's Meat Market brats, German sausages, and hot dogs with all the trimmings and sides. After some digesting we shared s’mores and made our own fruit pies over the camp fires. Great company and tall tales all retired to bed well after sunset, while playing games, hiking to the look out, and tinkering with our Model T’s at each of our camp sites in our shared large area.

Saturday: We started the day with campsite breakfast of fresh hot baked goods, fruits, juices and coffee. Arturo, Elena, & Dulce made pancakes off their Coleman U.S.A. stove for all to enjoy. We started preparing chili to simmer all day. After a pre-tour meeting, we departed the park for a day of touring the Rock River Valley. Our first stop was at Castle Rock State Park (Illinois) for a big view of the River, from above and along the shore. Next we had an enjoyable visit at the John Deere historic site at Grand Detour, Illinois. The grounds included an archeological dig, blacksmith shop, historic homes, beautiful native gardens and more. (Highly recommended!!!) Next we pushed onward to lunch at Sledgehammer’s along scenic Route 2. After lunch we toured along the River, pausing for pics at the Nuclear Power Plant, then heading back to camp.

Saturday Night was wonderfully fulfilling with more great food and social times with friends. We played games and relaxed in the afternoon among the tables we pushed together from our circle of camp sites. We had more sno-cones, ice cream and root beer floats from Quirky's Hot Dogs. Tonight’s dinner was the chili we prepared that morning, Andy’s sausage & kraut (new favorite!), and PARTS SWAP So Good BBQ (original favorite). Plus more camp fire desserts, chatting, stories, games, leisure, and no bugs! As the evening slowed down, we gathered our chairs around one of the camp fires, and were pleasantly serenaded by the Pasch girls Ukuleles. A late night walk from the woods to the open field revealed a night sky full of stars.

Sunday morning breakfast was planned for us all to sleep-in a little. Still, Andy had the coffee hot and fresh bagels ready for toasting either in Joe’s toaster or over Joe’s camp fire toaster. We knocked down our sprawling camp, and had our pre-tour meeting. Eastbound back to the Chicago suburbs, we stopped the Malta history museum and Old School Pizza Malta for a spectacular rest stop and comfort food along our road trip rally. Each of us started heading back to our own neighborhoods, our bodies a bit tired, and our Model T spirit rekindled.

Thank you again Joe and Andy for a Tour that was immediately inducted into our Hall of Fame!!!
