Mary Sanders and her husband Dave Gestner came to visit our library this past Friday from Colorado. Mary’s parents were Leon and Margaret Sanders. Mary is posed by her father Leon’s WWII uniform and holding his diploma from St. Mary’s High School. Thanks so much for visiting and for previously donating these items to our museum!

Today’s Preschool Storytime theme was “On the Farm!” We read books about farms, pretended to help out on a farm, danced to Go Bananas and the Animal Freeze Dance, and walked like different animals around the shelter house. Then we finally were able to play with parachutes since the rain spoiled our fun a couple of weeks ago!

The West Point Public Library Book Club met this past Saturday to discuss our June’s book club selection “The Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhon. This is a historical fiction drama set in the mid to late 1700’s and was inspired by the diaries and life of Martha Ballard, a renowned midwife and healer. Everyone really enjoyed the book and would highly recommend!

Thanks to Susan and Karli from the Lee County Extension office for our third day of The Balanced Bookshelf Series! This is a program for K-3 grades that builds wellness and literacy skills through fun stories and activities. We read the book “The Big Cheese,” which focuses on humility, empathy, and sportsmanship. Everyone designed their own “confidence crowns” with stars showcasing what they were good at and decorated them with jewels and markers.
