Amazing Hoover history from Down Under!
Before becoming our 31st President, Herbert Hoover served as Superintendent of the Sons of Gwalia mine at Mt Leonora from May to November 1898. He and the miners lived in tents until permission was granted to build permanent structures.

As noted in 'Homes of the Hoovers' by Ruth Dennis and 'Historical sketches of Leonora and Gwalia' by Don and Donna Reid: 'Its construction was begun by Hoover, though he was transferred to China before the building was completed in 1899.'

A fascinating piece of presidential history in Australia's 'living ghost town' of Gwalia!

A woman with long ties to a faded gold rush town has moved in to help preserve its history for generations to come.

Monday reflections... Standing where it all began. Sometimes you need to look back to remember what pushed you forward.

"My recollection of my father is of necessity dim indeed, but I retain one vivid memento from this time. Playing barefoot around the blacksmith shop, I stepped on a chip of hot iron and carry the brand of Iowa on my foot to this day."
-Herbert Hoover

β˜€οΈ Pull over for this one!
Step into the birthplace of a future president at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site.

This isn't just another roadside stop - it's where an orphaned boy from a tiny Iowa cottage grew up to feed millions and lead a nation.
The sun is shining on the beautifully restored grounds.
Walk through Hoover's actual birthplace, explore the blacksmith shop, and discover how this small-town kid became a global humanitarian before ever reaching the White House.
Perfect weather for an inspiring detour that'll change how you see American history. Trust us - this story will stick with you long after you leave.
Worth the stop. Every single time.

The Uncommon Student Award finalists kicked off their journey with an inspiring and action-packed introduction weekend.

Students got behind-the-scenes access to the research room at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Museum and toured the Hoover National Historic Site β€” stepping into history where it happened. πŸ›οΈ

They heard from incredible speakers who challenged and inspired them to think bigger, lead boldly, and pursue impact with purpose. ✨

This weekend was more than an introduction β€” it was the start of a supportive, dynamic community of students doing uncommon things for the common good.
