Visit us for four floors of stories, games, history, and art - plus big views of the Columbia River. Our helpful guides will answer your questions, and short movies in three theaters will round out the stories that unfold as you move through the center's exhibits. Get hands-on at the Discovery Center year-round every Tues-Sun from 9:30am-5pm for FREE. The Discovery Center also houses the Rocky Reach Café, serving breakfast, lunch and fresh-baked goodies for purchase.

⚡ What happened to this rock?
This week's feature is Fused Basalt.
Its glassy surface suggests it was exposed to intense heat or electrical energy. A handwritten note that accompanied the specimen mentions high voltage, but exactly how it formed remains part of its mystery.
Next month, we'll shift from the geology that shaped the Columbia River to the people who have called it home for thousands of years as explores Native American artifacts.

✨ Big crystals. Slow science. This week's feature is Pegmatite, a rock formed as magma cooled slowly beneath the Earth's surface. That slow cooling gave crystals time to grow, creating rocks that can contain rare minerals and beautiful gemstones. Some of Earth's most incredible transformations happen quietly, deep underground.
