If you leave your address, well send you our informational flier. Looking for a friendly group of folks who enjoy creating art and learning new things? Consider joining the Webster Art Club! Monthly meetings of the Webster Art Club are held the

second Wednesday of the month from Sept-Nov and Jan-May at 6:30 pm at the Webster Recreation Center on Phillips Road, Webster, NY. A brief business meeting is followed by a presentation by a local known artist. We also have an open painting day every Wednesday from 9 am to 12 noon at the Webster Recreation Center during the months of Sept-May. Included in our many activities are opportunities to showcase your artwork at our judged Fall Art Show (Nov) at the Webster Public Library and Spring Art Show (May) at Barnes & Noble in Pittsford. Twice a year we offer a "Creative Canvas" activity where folks enjoy an evening of painting, socializing and a glass of wine with friends. WAC cares about the youth of our community and invites graduating high school seniors enrolled in the AP art class in to present their art work to our members and then awards a scholarship to a student from each school.WAC is always doing something fun! Please join us at one of our monthly meetings or weekly painting classes to meet members and learn more about joining our group.

A Productive Morning
Wednesday mornings throughout our season (ends in June), members of WAC meet at the Rec Center to work on their own drawings, paintings, etc. This week, Christy worked on drawing eyes; Kate worked on watercolor studies; Carolyn worked on an illustration featuring her favorite squirrel; Jeanne worked on painting shells; Corrine worked drawing natural items, including a nest using a Micron pen; and Mary worked on painting with odd objects like seed pods, bubble wrap, cardboard and corks. Everyone was busy!

May Meeting: A Fine Evening with Bill Finewood
“His work is so varied, so beautiful, and he’s good at everything,” said one of our members after seeing painter and illustrator, Bill Finewood’s, presentation. Another member said she liked his detailed and super-realistic style, but especially enjoyed seeing Finewood’s early 3-dimensional paper relief illustrations. Still another audience member was transformed back to Nyhavn, Copenhagen, upon seeing Finewood’s finely detailed painting of the city’s waterfront filled with 17th century architecture and historic ships.
Yes, Bill Finewood’s work is varied, highly detailed and beautifully rendered, with inviting compositions reflecting local landscapes, architecture and canal scenes, as well as paintings of animals and birds he sees here and in Montana where he spends time. His work serves as a reminder of how inspiring our own local area is for Finewood and other artists who interpret the area’s beauty in their artwork.
See BIll’s painting in this year’s Fairport Canal Festival poster!

Welcome Sarah Jesse!
WAC was happy to welcome the Director of the Memorial Art Gallery, Sarah Jesse, to our Open Art session this morning. We learned about MAG’s current initiatives and programming, and about the importance of having the entire community have access to art. Our community is lucky to have this wonderful resource nearby as well as an engaging new director to lead it into the future!

April Meeting: Steven Peet
New to presenting his work to an audience, Steven Peet did an AWESOME job at tonight’s meeting. A Rochester native, Steven studied architecture at the University of Buffalo and participated a study abroad program in Belgium. While not a formally trained artist, his career in architecture, frequent travels in China and an artist residency in Japan have greatly influenced his art. His acrylic paintings merge architectural and figurative subject matter, exploring people in their built environments. Various patterns are often included in his complex compositions, creating a sense of movement and exploration. Steve’s use of color is deliberate and unique; sometimes he uses a limited color scheme; other times he uses a wide variety of color. His desire to better understand color theory is one many of us could appreciate. Contemporary artists who influence Steve include: Zoey Franks, Octavi Serra “Aryz”; Flora Yukhanovich and Sainer Blejzyk.
Steven Peet is a member of the Rochester Art Club and the Buffalo Society of Artists. Many positive comments were expressed at the end of our meeting regarding this inspiring presentation!
