Weaverville Joss House Association The ornate beauty of the Weaverville Joss House stands as a lasting tribute to Weaverville's Chinese Pioneers.

The temple is the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California. On display are art objects, pictures, mining tools, and weapons used in the 1854 Tong War. This Taoist temple is still a place of worship and a fascinating look into the role played by Chinese immigrants in early California history. We will be celebrating the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Day on May 23 from 10am to 2pm with Lion Dances, firecrackers, Asian food and treats. Kids crafts for the Year of the Horse will be highlighted with free tours of the Cloud Forest Temple.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Month! Because we were not able to celebrate our Lunar New Year, we have decided to have a celebration on May 23! With the winter weather cancelling the annual Chinese New Year event in February, we are now looking at future dates that we may be able to offer a celebration in April or May. At this time, we are looking at September 26 as the date for the Autumn Moon Festival.

Don't forget. Saturday October 4th is the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival at the Weaverville Joss House State Park from 10am to 2pm. Admission is free with a Story Walk about Mooncakes for kids with lots of crafts also. We will be serving Chinese tea with cookies and Green Tee Ice Cream. Free temple tour from 10am to 2pm. Across the street at the Highland meadow, you will find the Harvest and Salmon Festivals.

This last week was spent packing up everything and putting it away until our next event. To say we couldn't have done it without your help would be an understatement.
