Learn more about T.S.Stribling at the Wayne County museum! Thanks Bear Inn Retreat in Clifton, Tennessee

For Clifton, T.S. Stribling isn’t just another name in a book.

Stribling was born here on March 4, 1881, he went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for his novel The Store. He wrote about the South honestly, the hard seasons & the rebuilding years. Our son gifted us a vintage copy of The Store for Christmas & we look forward to reading it for our ourselves soon.

We have the T. S. Stribling Museum here in Clifton now. It’s a beautiful reminder that big stories can grow from small places. There are some folks who are working hard to get the museum back up & running this year. More about this to come.

Honoring our past isn’t just nostalgia, it’s also remembering who we are & the kind of depth that’s been here all along.

Wayne County Museum Trivia!
Who was this man?
This individual lived his early years near Waynesboro where he received his early education. He achieved worldwide recognition in 1958 as the commander of the USS Nautilus, the world‘s first nuclear powered submarine that made the first successful underwater crossing of the north pole. For this fee, he and the crew received a presidential citation and a New York tickertape parade. At the time, the accomplishment was considered an answer to the Soviet Union‘s launch of the world‘s first satellite the year before. After a 20 year career in the Navy, he served four terms as a congressman from Tennessee sixth district. Who was he?.
