According to the handwritten note on the top left of this postcard, the image shows the "new express office & depot Waynesboro." The back of the postcard has a postmark Feb 19, 1907, 2:30 PM Waynesboro Va and is addressed to Mr. J. M. Pulmarton Pullman - Whitman Co., Washington.
The note at the bottom of the front of the card reads as follows:
"It is very rainy today I am writing this at school want to tell cousin Lillie don't want her to have another such feeling as before want to see you step off here someday Everybody better [none] well all you write Love to all Bessie Layman."
Sadly, it does not say what school she is attending. The Brandon Hotel was still in operation in 1907 and did not become a school until 1913.
Maybe she was a local girl who was sending a postcard to family in Washington.....

According to the booklet "Basic City" by the Waynesboro Historical Commission "The Shenandoah Normal College opened its doors in August of 1890. The building had 40 rooms including a 24 by 31 foot study hall. The principal's office, dining room, parlor, recitation room and kitchen occupied the first floor. The remaining floors provided housing for the principal, his family and some of the students. The College offered three curricula: Teachers; Scientific; and Commercial. The students came from Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. The bright future took a turn late on the evening of November 15, 1892. An uncontrollable fire consumed the building, destroying much of the college furniture and nearly half of the trunks and clothing of the students. The loss to the owners, the Basic City Mining Manufacturing and Land Company, was estimated at $10,000."

This image appears on the front of a postcard that has a postmark showing the date of 1974. The card was addressed to Mrs. Mark Loomis, and was requesting her attendance at anApril 9th Congregational Oversight Committee Meeting.
The upper left-hand corner of the back of the card has a description but the right-hand side of the description is covered by a stamp. In part it indicates that the image on the front of the card is a drawing of what the church will look like when complete

The beautiful gates seen in this image were the North Gate to Fairfax Hall, a local preparatory school for girls in the early to mid-20th century. The school had a barn and horses the students, as seen here, were able to ride.

This beautiful view of Rockfish Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Waynesboro and Afton, Virginia is shown on an undated postcard. The back of the card has the following description:
"Aerial View of Rockfish Gap"
"This view shows the southern terminus of the Skyline Drive and the beginning of the Blue Ridge Parkway, where it is separated by U.S. Route #250, in the background, is Rockfish Valley, expressed by many as one of the most beautiful scenic views in Virginia."
This image also shows the businesses that were popular with travelers and locals in the mid 20th century.

Today is Coast Guard Day. It is observed annually and celebrates the founding of the U.S. Coast Guard, which was established as the Revenue Cutter Service by Alexander Hamilton in 1790.
Today is the 236th birthday of the service, and the Waynesboro Heritage Foundation honors all who have served and continue to serve.

Waynesboro Home & Auto Supply was located at 141 N. Wayne Avenue in the late 1940's and early 1950's. In a Waynesboro News-Virginia ad in 1948 it says the store was located next to the Fire Department.
An ad in the News-Virginian, dated June 11, 1949, asked "Looking for something to give the Bride?" It went on to say that they had a "fine selection of practical gifts including (hand-painted cannister sets, bread * cake boxes, step-on disposals,) and all sorts of electrical appliances" The end of the ad said that it was hoped customers would make them their "Gift-Giving Center."
This undated photograph shows the inside of the store that could have been at 141 N. Wayne Avenue or 147 N. Wayne Avenue where the store was located in 1953.
