How unfortunate that the prospect of legal liability has become so great that experts prefer not to express their opinions. But I'll always trust the conclusions of the trained eye over AI.

Attribution is such a fraught thing. I hope this painting was a family piece, possibly started by Vermeer and finished by his eldest daughter and secret apprentice.

Museum researchers said there was enough evidence to warrant changing the attribution of one of its four Vermeers.

Adieu Christo. Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped was such a beautiful bookend to his career and a gift to Parisians. I’ve admired his and the late Jeanne Claude’s installations since I watched the documentary Running Fence (1977) long ago. They shifted one’s perspective on landscapes in surprising ways, then played with time by taking it all down only weeks later, leaving the projects to exist in memory (and, happily, in several documentaries).

A beautiful and uplifting project in difficult times.

I'm raising my hand for this appraisal! This "damaged" piece wasn't damaged at all. It was completed by the artist in the sales room, and the lucky buyer realized an immediate increase in value. A great case study on the fluidity of value.
