We had such a wonderful time this past Saturday at the opening of our new temporary exhibit, “Talkative Trees” by Lindsey Taylor Henriques! Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special event.

“Talkative Trees” will be open for public view starting tomorrow, June 7th, when the museum opens at 10am. The exhibit will run until August 27th. So, there is plenty of time for you all to come by and begin your adventure into the world of these talkative trees. See y’all soon!

Introducing our Board Member and Volunteer Archivist, Rick Hill.
Rick is originally from Wichita Falls, Texas. He moved to Waveland in 2019 as he and his wife were interested in retiring to an area near the Gulf Coast.
Rick has been affiliated with WGZM for three years!

--How did you first get involved with WGZM?
"Through an initial visit and, most especially, our growing friendship with Lili and Donald Stahler-Murphy!"

--What’s your favorite thing about the museum?
"The fact that it is here at all—not only to document the most destructive hurricane in U.S. history, but as a testament to the resiliency of the courageous people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast."

--What do you think this museum means for the
community? What does it bring?
"It is a sign of hope and a call for preparedness for an uncertain future. The museum also offers a vast array of opportunities to spread our wings and offer the area and visitors a diverse offering of exhibits (such as the recent Smithsonian Exhibit and John Dumoulin's exhibit) for our community. We are also a destination attracting more visitors to Waveland and the greater Gulf Coast community. Finally, we can be ambassadors of hospitality, kindness and a loving community to all who visit WGZM."

Thank you Rick for all you do for our museum!

Last Monday we had a wonderful time gathering with all of you to talk about hurricane preparedness. We were able to get some great info/tips from our guest speakers and the resources that they shared. Here are a couple more pics from the event showing some our attendees, guest speakers, and or attending board members. Thanks again to everyone who helped make the seminar a success!

We hope you all saw and saved the 7 day preparation plan from Mississippi Emergency Management Agency that we posted here last week. Now is the time to make your hurricane prep plan. There are lots of great resources out there to help you all better prepare for the hurricane season. We will continue to share the resources we find with all of you; so, stay tuned and stay prepared!

May is designated as our member/donor drive month at WGZM!
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the museum, we would like to invite you to become a member/donor and join our growing group supporters.

We are working hard to make our museum better for visitors and locals. We are now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and rely on donations for operations since admission remains free to all.

If you wish to join as a member or make a general donation, you can use the donation page of our website https://www.wavelandgroundzero.com/donate or get a copy of a member/donor form at the museum. On behalf of the museum staff, volunteers, and the Board, please consider helping us sustain this museum!

If you have any questions about the membership process, or any feedback regarding your experience with WGZM, please feel free to call the museum at (228) 467-9012 or email Bonnie Garner, our Membership Committee Co-Chair, at [email protected]!

We sincerely thank everyone who has generously supported our museum. We couldn’t do it without y’all!
