# ALLAMAKEE VETERANS MUSEUM OPERATION DESERT STORM 1991
On Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., the Allamakee Veterans Museum will present a video program on the 35th Anniversary of “Operation Desert Storm” –the Allied response to the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait, at its museum located at 105 Allamakee Street in Waukon. Museum Tours will also be offered from 9am to noon on Saturday.
The public is invited to attend. No admission charge.
In August of 1990, Iraqi armed forces under its leader Saddam Hussein invaded the country of its neighbor Kuwait and seized its oil fields. Iraq also threatened to invade Saudi Arabia to seize its oil fields. The U.S.A. initiated Operation Desert Shield to respond to the crises and pursued a diplomatic solution through the United Nations. Diplomacy failed and military action was taken against Iraq’s forces beginning January 17th.
A follow-up program will be held later to present interviews with Allamakee County veterans of this conflict on dates to be announced.

Announcement to all a must see!
The Allamakee County Veterans museum has a new exhibit that has just been put up on display!
The Combat Medics and Corpsman of WWII.
The Combat Medics , Corpsman plus Military Medical personnel of all US wars and conflicts served as a vital role in saving and helping hundreds of thousands lives through our military history!
In our new display the three WWII soldiers in it are two Medics and one Corpsman.
The two Medics (Army) one from ETO or European Theater of Operations.
The other is from PTO or Pacific Theater of Operation.
The Corpsman (Navy) on ships but also served as Medical personnel for the USMC in it Islands hopping campaign in the south Pacific Operations.
These very brave soldiers in these roles lived and died so they could save as many military personnel as they could in combat war zones.
They preform their medical duties to retrieve wounded or dieing soldiers so to administer medical attention to those in most need in the middle of a combat battle and their only goals was to save others and in most all cases not fearing for their own safety well being.
They some of the really true heroes of all wars.
In WWII the (PTO) Medics and Corpsman didn't ware any type of red cross marking on their combat uniforms so to become a first target by the Japanese soldiers also in other US wars this was also a common practice as well.
In (ETO) Medics wore the red cross on their helmets, medical bags and a arm bassards as a sign to both side these are medical personnel only here to save lives and patch up the wonded and not in the fight also the American and Germans soldiers knew if they lost the battle one side or the other they could get medical attention from either side and be treated with decently in most but not all cases.
In the new display the items on display are that a WWII Combat Medics or Corpsman would use as said to help both soldiers and even the civilian population in the war zones.
Thanks for your service and God bless the USA!

Running or crawling into a active combat zones to retrieve a wounded and dyeing American or allied soldiers regardless their own safety to save a life is only fitting to praise their actions they served in the US Military conflicts! Thanks for saving our soldiers to once again if all possible to come home again!
