Look up, Watertown! The Perseid Meteor Shower takes center stage TONIGHT — and Sci-Tech is bringing out the telescopes! 🔭✨

📍 Thompson Park — West Tower Drive, across from the 10th Mountain Division Monument

Come watch for shooting stars and brilliant fireballs, explore deep-sky objects through our telescopes, and let Sci-Tech help guide you around the night sky. 🌟

Bring a chair or blanket, grab the bug spray, and bring the whole family!

☄️🌌 WATERTOWN — LOOK UP WEDNESDAY NIGHT! 🌌☄️

One of the BEST meteor showers of the year is arriving — and this year the timing couldn’t be much better!

Join Sci-Tech for a FREE night under the stars as we watch the Perseid Meteor Shower from Thompson Park.

✨ What could you see?

☄️ Perseid meteors streaking across the sky
🔥 Occasional brilliant “fireballs”
🔭 Deep-sky objects through telescopes
🌌 Other celestial sights with help from Sci-Tech staff

And here’s what makes 2026 special: the Perseid peak arrives with a NEW MOON, giving us beautifully dark skies for meteor watching.

The Perseids are created by tiny pieces of debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle. Some are only about the size of a grain of sand — but they’re traveling at more than 35 MILES PER SECOND when they hit Earth’s atmosphere. 🤯

Bring a chair or blanket, bring the family, grab the mosquito repellent, and spend a summer night exploring the universe with us.

Free Telescopic Observing Night
Sci-Tech announces a free astronomy observing session, with telescopes
providing spectacular views of our Moon and other interesting celestial features. Sci-
Tech staff will be on hand to guide viewers around the sky.
On Friday, July 24 at 9:30pm, the observing night will be held at Thousand Island
Park, on Wellesley Island. This event will be set up on the lawn near the gazebo, behind
the Thousand Island Park Library. The library is located at 42743 St. Lawrence Avenue,
Thousand Island Park, NY.
